Classic! One of the real first times you got to really hear P's speaking voice and WOW was it cool! Always thought this was his follow up to Do Me Baby
The greatest live performer of our times was is and always will be Prince.

Remember there is only one destination and that place is U
All of it. Everything. Is U.

Yep...I had written a thread about this very thing a long time ago asking which would ya'll had prefered? If The Time had released it or Prince? Personally, I'm glad that P kept it for himself. P did write and record this specifically for The Time. He recorded it MUCH earlier and waaay before he even started work on his own album. It was one of the first songs P recorded for The Time's "What Time Is It?" album. But word is that P heard The Time reharsing it live and then P was like "Oh hell no! I GOT to take this back!" But yeah, like "Free", I love P's singing on this. VERY gospel influenced. I've always championed this song on here. Again to me, I consider this to be one of his best ballads. Also like on Lady Cab Driver, he showcased his great musicianship and his prowess as a multi-instrumentalist in the studio. EXCELLENT vocal performance and his old school church gospel screams towards the end of this song is simply out of this world. NO artists in pop or R&B or funk at that time was doing what Prince was doing. NOBODY. Sure, Funkadelic were blending funk and rock and gospel in the early 70's and again in 77 with "Fantasy Is Reality". Which I have No doubt that greatly influenced Prince. But unlike Funkadelic, which employed the use of many musicians and male AND female vocalists, Prince in this case, acomplished this feat all entirely on his own.

Although this song was not released as a single, it was STILL nominated for a Grammy Award in 83. When I saw him a couple of times on the 1999 tour out here in So. Cali, when he got to this song in the set, people in the audience lost their minds. It always recieved a different reaction than Do Me, Baby did. Girls screamed all throughout Do Me Baby. But when the band played this song live, everybody was just like "Wow!". Because the stage lights and effects went all out on this song. All of the dry ice and tons of smoke with that big red neon red heart shaped light on the side of the stage. The bed rising on the second level stage and the red backdrop so P was in silloutte. To me, that was straight out of a scene from Rocky Horror Show where Tim Curry's character was sleeping with both Brad and Janet tricking them into thinking that they were with each other. Same lighting, same angle, same concept, the whole 9. THAT band line up always sounded good playing this song live.
