man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

a critical mistake is loosing touch with the the drive and hunger
this is a very human mistake a lot of us make on our way to success

I was just reading Mazarati's interview

and Sir Casey Terry was talking about heading 2 the guitarists T Christians basement to rehearse because that's how they always did...

Now of course they aren't comparable to Prince as far as stardom
But as musicians it's a good thing that I've noticed with many bands across musical genre, keeping touch with simple connection

Reading about what prompted the Brit Awards show 06 (Which I think was a very spectacular performance) it started out with Wendy & Lisa dropping by Prince's house to hang out and jam on some instruments happened a few more times and Sheila E joining in

They worked out some musical arrangments, just old friends & fellow musicians

I don't think he has that kind of connection with most of his current band mates even some previous npg

I think he became 2 Hollywood, and forgot Uptown

Alright all you purple junkies don't get your jock straps and brassiers in a knot. This is not a diss thread but merely an acknowledgement of where our beloved Prince has gone off what appeared to be a gold paved path of success. In other words...name some shit Prince did that made you go "What's wrong with this mutherfucker??" biggrin

I'll start...

1. Direct Graffiti Bridge. barf but I'll still watch it. tv zzz tv bored

Prince might hate you now, do you feel the energy? because he's feeling yours.

This is not a diss to you, is a acknowledgement of your great vibe!

Can't wait for your great fan post!

The only real "mistakes" I would assign to Prince would be:

Not bringing the SOTT tour to the U.S.

Letting Kirky J produce

Making UTCM and GB (the movies)

Not hiring top-flight, creative and innovative video directors

Not putting out a Revolution reunion album/CD

I don't like Chaos And Disorder, either. It feels like a rushed throwaway...a quick, uninspired album that he threw together to fulfill his contractual obligations.

I have to piggyback on most comments with:

Larry Graham: That stint they did on the ill-fated Sinbad show almost made me physically ill with the whole "stauros" thing. I was like please just let Prince perform. Larry's influence makes Prince's music sound too controlled. Like he has someone looking over his shoulder. I know he is older now but I miss the Prince that was just buckwild with his songwriting, attitude and stage presence.

Sign of the Times tour of the US: I remember watching this in the theatre and fantasizing how American audiences would lose their minds seeing this live. I thought it was a huge mistake. Also, even though "Adore" was a classic it should have been released as an official single.

Dating more dark-skinned women: Yeah this one is out there but for all his rants about sitting down with Cornel West, Tavis Smiley and the like he acts as if dark-skinned women have the plaque (can we really count Nona Gaye?)as a love interest. Yes its his choice but it seems downright pathological. (Ingrid Chavez, Mayte, Vanity, Mani, Troy Beyer, Kim Basinger, Susannah and on and on).
They are all beautiful in their own right but good lord. He even had no physical interaction with the girl in the "Black Sweat" video. Being a chocolate sister myself when the video first came on and I saw her I damn near fell out. I was like yeah he is showing a sister some love! But my hopes died a quick death when all she did was gyrate around him and his damn cup of coffee. It just seems hypocritical to me. I feel like women like me are still not acknowledged as beautiful. That is a whole audience he missed out on.

I count Nona because he even told her he wanted to marry her - probably would have if not for her drug usage. I count Susan because he wrote a song about her- I think she didn't want him in the end. Even though I know Prince dates every hue I feel what you are saying. It's about the exposure I guess. But hell how much exposure are you going to get if the relationship is not long lasting? That's as much to do with the women as with him.

Big mistake not bringing SOTT to the states. nod Tour selection is tricky though. I don't see too many artists doing world tours. They will hit up the states one year to promote one album and then go overseas another year to promote another album. It's a tough life so you wouldn't want to get burned out.

4 pages and no one mentioned "Stauros" yet?

It's not so much Prince's religion that we hate... it's what it wrought...

- The NewPowerPak
- The Hit n' Run Tour
- Stauros speech
- The Christ
- No more swearing (Yet still being as dirty as possible? How does that even make sense? What an odd rule.)
- His bizarre theories on racism
- Claiming music wants to be free, yet I can't play my old NPGMC tracks because he shut his dang site down, as well as taunting us with unreleased stuff ("The Divine", etc.), and going after anyone who plays a song that features a chord that appeared in one of his songs.

I wouldn't say any of these were "mistakes" though... if Prince was still 20 years old. But hearing a 50 year old man rant about chemtrails is something that should be saved for Art Bell.

What the Hell??! doh! What did he say?
