Prince: Anthology 1978 - 1996

Just for fun...

What do you think to this as an alternative 'Best Of', featuring all the B-Sides, along with album tracks and some 'rarities'. Bearing in mind this is a realistic" compilation, so can't feature demos and stuff that Warners don't actully have at their disposal.

I think it should run chronologically too. We haven't had an official Prince compilation yet that runs in the order the tracks were released. I always think this is great for comps, especially for people who are new to the artist, and want to see the progression and development of their work.

It should represent Prince as an albums artist as well as featuring all the extra 'official' tracks not included on major releases (Then it might actually SELL, right??!)

Quite good smile

But I'd put some live material. In fact I would have done a live retrospective.

Would love to - but difficult with precious little available. If it was a post-Warners, a different story! Now I think about it, maybe I should have at least included stuff from The Undertaker / Sacrifice of Victor films.

Good thought!

I love seeing other people's collections. This is one of the better ones! I have a compilation I've been working on for years. Currently it's 30 discs.

Why not just listen to all his discs in order? Isn't that like 30 discs? Meh. I don't understand why you would want to pick and choose... it's not like we have limited space. Just listen to it all on shuffle - guaranteed good times.

12 discs of singles, 6 discs of b-sides and rarities, 12 discs of alternate mixes. Not the same as all the CD's. In fact, not all of them are even represented since a few didn't have any singles. It includes all officially released remixes and extended versions.

Hmmm. Well, when you get into the 30 disc territory, you might as well just make a bonus disc companion for each album including that stuff.

But I do understand. I used to do this kind of thing all the time. I have liberated myself from it in the last several years. lol

Then again, I spent a little time putting together a massive 2004-2009 mega-playlist today. I gave up after about 20 minutes of sequencing tracks. I realized I'm totally over that kind of OCD anal retentive re-organizing and was fine with it lol

Just reading all of the above. Hardly anybody saw the point (a couple of exceptions) and, just I expected, lots of pointless arguing.

It was for FUN.

You lot of have just squeezed all of the fun out of it by complaining, so I guess I'll go back to simply reading your petty arguments on these pages instead of contributing for a change.

Glad to know my bored-lunchtime topic gave you something to squabble childishly about.

Why?
And why from 1978 to 1996?
How will the not-so hardcore person look at this set?

PLEAse Read the post properly!!

It was just an idea for what I might put on an anthology. I DID SAY it was a 'realistic' compilation, based on what Warners could actually put out. They don't own anything after '96.

Hence...

I must admit choosing tracks from the '86 - '88 period was hard. In the end I cut loads of tracks just cos they wouldn't realistically fit on a disc.
