He is 1 on of many great poets. His writings though are very unique to me, and i connect to them in a special way that doesn't happen easily for me. Poetry is a very personal thing, so of course the way you connect with it is personel as well.

I have always felt that if Prince weren't doing music, I would love to read his books...Prince has a great mind.

Thank you to Ernest and mzkqueen for once again making me grin for a few moments. Please don't ever stop posting mzkqueen. Life would be a shade less colourful without you in it.

Some of the lyrics do sound like poetry, and it does sound nice.
But he's more a musician/lyricist than considered poet.

yes, I love how he can take a simple phrase like "you're always on my mind" and complicate it into "there's never a time I find that you don't ever cross my mind"

or take a whimsical expression like "for you I would lasso the moon!" and make it sound as if he had actually done such a thing "Ur the reason I lassoed a rope 'round the moon!"

or the pure genius & originality that doesn't need music at all to be a classic...

who would think Tupac's lyrics would be studied in a collegiate setting? ( and no I am not a Tupac fan) so before the verbal snobbery ensues who knows how Princes material will be viewed in the future.

And imaging how interestng and proactive a discussion would be if a lecturer brings in one of Princes songs for discussion - that will wake up the class!

i find him to be pretty shallow and banal, to be honest. love him (or his work) all the same, but let's not stretch the hyperbole too far.

The conventional definition of poetry is a imaginative writing often with a regular rhythm.

I think the "rhythm" in Princes' writings comes alive in the music. Not to say that there isn't rhythm in some of the writings alone, but you can't seperate the two with him in my opinion. To be able to put the two together is such a beautiful complexity.

Prince is a Divine sensualist and his lyricks come from somewhere deep and mystic place..it gets me so high

Comparison game is such a bore..why not see the divinity in everyone ?
