various newbie questions

please be kind, i am but a humble newbie!

1. i read DMSR a long time ago, but i don't remember it much. i do remember two song titles-- 'Neon Telephone' and 'Holly Rock'. what are these? songs for the side projects? vault stuff?

2. is there a place where i can find a singles discography with running times? i have been listening to the B-Sides CD obsessively and i hear that many of these songs are edits. i was wondering how much longer things like Girl, Feel U Up, Shockadelica, etc. actually are in their original form.

3. i am called 'whistle'. are there any Prince songs that have whistling in them apart from Tamborine? smile

I like this sort of trivia question. cool

The Other Side Of the Pillow on The Truth album has Prince whistling.
Just somewhere in the middle,
Not too good and not too bad.

I feel like there is another song that I cannot think of right now.

There are plenty of songs where I feel like whistling, when there isn't any there.

In some cases Whistling, and Taps and other sorts of percussion app(Hear) to be vacant from the song. cool

Neon Telephone is an out-take from 1985, 'inspired' by the neon telephone used in Under The Cherry Moon - A re-recorded version was released by Three O'Clock on their Paisley Park album Vermillion in '88.

Holly Rock, also recorded 1985 is a track by Prince performed by Sheila E and released as a single from the Krush Groove soundtrack.

Wikipedia should do you right. The Hits/B-Sides collection has the 7" version of the b-sides, the 12" are longer as you say.

i tried! i went to the library and they don't have it. i had to settle for 'Possessed', which reeks of agenda-laden hackery.

You're missing some hardcore bad acting by all concerned. Sheila's Jamie Starr schtick is cringe-worthly brilliant.

Then def. get a copy. It's a great reference tool for many reasons. I think I've read it about a half dozen times, and certainly referenced it more than that.
