"Kept Woman"...4 Tamar or Bria

After listening to the song numerous times....taking in the adoration that Prince and Bria have 4 each other(Tavis's interview confirmed this), imo this song was written 4 Bria long time ago...she was 17 when she met Prince...I do think Prince met her first...afterall he has known Morris Hayes 4 a long time...which means?

Which means she was young when she met Prince. The end.

Kept Woman's lyrics was changed in Bria's version : "Eye was only 17 when he saw me/ The apple of my daddy's eyes"

Támar's version : "Eye was only 16 when he saw me/ The apple of my daddy's eyes"

I'm quoting myself lol

You know Prince likes them young. Mayte was 16. Anna (Garcia) Fantastic was 16 and Bria was 17. Apparently Tamar was young too. Supposedly he waits until they're 18 before he does the Nasty.

Neither. Just because they recorded it doesn't mean Prince wrote it for one of them.

he already recorded that duet with tamar called "on your own"
way back in 1993.

but there's a difference between "knowing" and "knowing". he
was married twice in the meantime and dated various women as
the years went by.

he might have walked into the both of them a long time ago
but he didn't get to know them until he started working with
them.

in that respect he's "known" tamar the longest i guess.

The thing with that is, that Bria is only 22...so they've only known eachother 5 years. cool

I like Tamar's version of "Kept Woman" better. Tamar's vocals are richer on this particular song than Bria. However, I love Bria and Prince's vocals on Elixer. I just think that Prince had this song "Kept Woman" in his vault and decided to use it. It doesn't necessarily mean that the song was for Bria or Tamar.... twocents

Released as a bootleg... which is a shame - it's actually good! Tamar is a very skilled singer. I would love to hear more of what kind of music she has to offer, beyond a Prince collaboration/influence...

might as well accept the fact, tamar is finished...her album never was released and her music does not have adequate backing.

she had a listening party for her new album (some tracks are on her myspace)
just a week ago or something. iirc this album is certain to be released, and
it has no prince involvement.

Define 'far' - Singing for Prince and sharing stage with him is taking it pretty far in my opinion. If I was ever to reach that level as a professional singer, I would have accomplished A LOT!

The "Milk and Honey" CD is good. I just feel disappointed in Prince. I mean, yeah, he gave her a shot, but he should have released Tamar's CD and not just "allow" the music to be released via a boot. I'm praying that he doesn't diss Shelby like Tamar. Nothing against Bria, but Tamar's vocals are stronger and if the full truth be told, Shelby can blow both Tamar and Bria's vocals out of the water. Sorry, but Prince played favorites with Bria over Tamar and Shelby and I am pissed to the height of pissivity with this move. Elixer is good, but Milk and Honey is a little bit better. Nuff said. mad

The vocalist he needs for a song is under his nose. That's Liv Warfield. I hope he works with her more she is incredible. Tamar and Bria are both good artist and they have there own style but listening to her album and watching her perform she's a quiet storm. biggrin

No offense taken. Us black folk can also play the bass better (stereotype). But... ummm.... Isn't Bria black? What the hell is she? Butterscotch?

Meh....while Tamar is a good singer..I think her vocals are too high for Prince's mood music. She sings higher than beyonce....while I did like Redhead Stepchild and Milk & Honey and 2 more songs..the album was bland Im sorry. Bria's album is much more romantic and indulgind. I feel like I'm on a beach or a sandy beach at night when i hear her album. I think Bria's voice fitted perfectly with the album Prince indeed wanted to make.
