man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

highfive I loooove this song! I like the instrumental part too, right before Prince sings, "Told us we should eat the swine". It reminds me of Stevie Wonder.

Yeah, the line about funky blue cheese was my sig for a while... Guilty pleasure indeed. cool

Now that I think about it, does the fact that so many orgers secretly like Animal Kingdom mean that it should now be disqualified from this thread? big grin

nod I think so, since more than just one or two people mentioned it. smile

Okay, a last one, to fullfill a 'top 3':

All the midnights in the world.

Probably my favourite Prince-song of the 00's.

This song gets often labelled as whimsical, throwaway, cheesy. I can imagine people calling it that when they are judging it on face value, AND, when they aren't very familiar with the term 'perfect popsong'.

The charm and strength of this song is that it sounds very nonchalant on face value, the music sounds too 'light' and even the vocals sound like 'he is not really trying'.
But underneath that seemingly nonchalance lies a very well-composed popsong. It really is a 'skill' to write and compose such a song, I mean... ask Paul McCartney or Neil Finn (Crowded House) about their numerous attempts.
You might not like the execution, but compositionwise its powerfull. All the midnights could be covered by another band, and they could score a classic hit with it. Just as happened with The Bangles covering Manic Monday.

Fantastic thoughtful lyric as well.

Amen people! GREAT song and indeed probably my favourite of his from this decade. Though we seem to be in a minority here... wink

nice post.

I love all these songs except "papa", which seems to go nowhere.

I was never sure what I really liked about "shy", but now I see it'S the folk / blues style. The production could easily have been so much better though.

jughead is universally and unequivocally HATED. and rightfully so. anyone who TRULY likes that song must be BANISHED to an island in a parallel universe that only plays rico suave by gerrardo 24/7

I'm sorry but I love this song. Sometimes it stays in my head all day. This is Prince at his gangster best. Since I'm from an island I wouldn't mind being banished there. I just don't understand all the hate!!! It is on my ipod twice.

Right The Wrong, &

Everyday Is A Winding Road

And, like a number of u on this thread, I also love Planet Earth from start to finish. Its definitely his best album this decade, but u wouldn't know it from this website!
