Did DARLIN NIKKI inspire songs like Dirty Dinana, etc. etc.

I heard Dirty Diana the other day for the first time in years.
It has a catchy hook, a 'Lolita' type of theme to it,
and the overall effect is that it reminds me of Darlin Nikki.

This is the 3rd time I've heard songs of this nature that
reminds me of Darlin Nikki.

Is this song ever credited for influencing songs out there.

The parallels of Darlin Nikki and Dirty Diana seem to suggest this.
Of course, where Darlin Nikki can be viewed as metaphore, as Prince
wrote much of his music then to be interpreted on different levels,
Dirty Diana is more or less a silly, fictional, and utterly unconvincing
sexual admission by MJ. And it's catchy hook, and great vocals
still are encased in a rather sterile package despite it's theme.

Anyone know if Darlin Nikki influenced this song or others?

Dirty Diana is a rip off of Darlin Nikki.

Firefos news "(I've always thought of this song as Jackson's lame attempt to one-up Prince's Darling Nikki ; Prince expresses his passion for the sexually available Nikki while Jackson is afraid of the aggressive Diana. Jackson even brought in ringer Steve Stevens to add guitar muscle to Diana, but how can a song about avoiding passion be better that one about embracing it)."

Darling Nikki:
Released June 25, 1984
Recorded Sunset Sound, 1983

Dirty Diana
Released April 18, 1987
Recorded 1986

pretty close in time lines.... but MJ stated that he wrote it for the groupies and had Steve Stevens play on it, its based off Beat It, not Darling Nikki.

MJ also claims he's only had two nose operations and his skin bleaching is the result of vitaligo. He's about as believable in an interview as Prince is.

Neither song has anything to do with the other. MJ's song is very specific to a person. It's about a sex craved star fucker. Nikki was just a whore.

There's a lot of songs about loose women seducing men and using them. They're actually, in a backwards way, an empowering type song to women, leaving men in the dust as the use-EE. (I know, that's a stretch.)

But Nikki and Diana aren't the only two songs like that, and there's a few dozen like that before Prince wrote Nikki. Also remember Nikki was written for a movie, Diana was written....well, for other reasons.

STOP COMPARING MICHAEL JACKSON AND PRINCE! mad

I'm tired of it. They are two brilliant--SEPERATE--artists.

You think the MJ fans invest this much time comparing Prince to Michael?

not in my world, and that's the only one that matters. i repeat, sweet little michael has to bring in musicians and producers in order to put out what few people would call good music. let's face it, jackson is a slave to the "hit-making machinery" joni mitchell (a REAL artist) sang about so many years ago!!! winner, winner, chicken dinner!!! i like my chicken baked, not fried

If you say so.....

Not everybody writes, produces, and composes their own music. That's just the way of the music industry

and I wouldn't say just a few would call his work "good", I mean, he has been in the spotlight for 40 years now lol

Right back at you darling. biggrin Do the fanbase a favor. Stop making us look BAD! Or maybe I shouldn't have said "Bad" since that is a Michael Jackson song. Or has Michael also ripped off Webster's Dictionary in using that term?

And that's not the same Webster Michael used to carry around either.

dude, you're getting too worked up over this

I'm simply saying not everyone is a one man machine, okay

And Michael's last full album was in 2001 and the last time he released a new song was 2004 (2008 if you count that online leak)

and considering he's released over 30 albums as a solo artist and with his brothers....
