Second Part of Tavis Smiley. Did prince hint to a new project?

Prince said: "We're trying to work on some jazz things right now. But time will tell."

What do you think? A second TRC. Some great instrumental work?

No, that's not a hint to me.

He's constantly working on new stuff anyway.

If it will be anything like TRC, this will continue his downward spiral. He is fast becoming a "has-been" icon, as only the truly die-hard fans care about any recent material that he has put out. Yeah, I'm stuck on the 80's and early 90's Prince. So what? biggrin

he always mentions new project ideas in interviews. it's fun, but the ideas he mentions don't always pan out. i wouldn't get TOO excited...

Exactly. This is just Prince talking, like he's done for years. Of course, you know that some of the less emotionally stable folks on this site will add this to their laundry list of "Prince's broken promises".

BINGO. And the die-hards are buying the recent stuff sometimes just for the sake of collection and to hear it. They aren't playing it to death the way they did ATWIAD, 1999, SOTT or even The Black Album.

God helps us if there is another TRC facsimile.

Has-Been? While charts aren't everything, why is Lotusflow3r still on the Top 20 of the Billboard charts? People are still checking P out in spite of him not being on radio or MTV/VH1/BET. That says a lot. Just cause you're not pleased with the direction P's going in doesn't mean that everybody is, so you're off base with the has been label.

Cameron, I was totally serious. My statement was that the hard core fan base will be the ones who always buy a Prince album; hence their status as hard core fans. They'll listen, be excited at first, but after a few months, the enthusiasm will wain, and in a year's time, most will have forgotten about it. Fans are more excited about Prince having a new album, because we consume everything he does so quickly and completely, not what's ON the album. Prince has served up a lot of dishes, and while we're hungry for some new food from him, once we get to the table, we realize it's not quite what we'd call food.

I have listened to Musicology 3 times, last 2 of which was PAINFUL. I wanted to like 3121 more than I did. I think I fooled myself into thinking I liked it, for a while. I really did like Planet Earth though. But I can't sing many songs from any of those albums. I've never listened to ONA Live all the way through. That 3rd disk is a joke. (I don't even own it, because it's too damn pricey right now for me.) And with the NPGMC stuff...pfft. Bait and switch, and that's another thread all together.

I see what you're saying but you come across as some kind of Prince expert with how us hardcore fans listen to his music and you really don't know that. Just cause you could only listen to Musicology 3 times doesn't mean that I did. I played it all the time in 2004. I was in Iraq and I played it regularly, even with the threat of bombs hitting my base. Same for 3121 in 06. There are a few CD's where I didn't play it a whole lot afterwards but there are others like Lotus/MPLS where I play it regularly, even if it isn't everyday but that's MY experience. I can't and won't speak for how other Prince fans listen to his music.

You gotta learn to take things w/ a grain of salt, and not assume someone is speaking FOR you. It's a generalized statement, and the assumption is there will always be an exception to the state rule.

I think sometimes Prince fans love an album because of the memories around it, not because of the album itself. Parade came out the year I graduated high school. I loved it because it reminds me of that time, but I also realize it's a great album. On the other hand, Lovesexy came out when I was in the Navy. I hated the Navy, but loved the album. It was one of many escapes for me at the time. People might like Musicology because they saw the tour a couple of times, and it was a great experience, but is the album that great? IMO, no.

To each his own. And I never claimed "On behalf of all hard core Prince fans...."

How do you know the die hards aren't playing the new stuff to death?

I think there's plenty of us who are playing MPLSound and Lotusflower to death and also plenty who played Planet Earth and 3121 an awful lot also.

Why do you wanna hear prince say Fuck again? Referring to your sig.

I never understand people who can't get over him not swearing anymore,

He doesn't swear in loads of his songs and there still great, would a fuck in a song somehow make it better. Would When Doves Cry get even better with a Fuck or too it.

If Prince came on stage and said "Hello London, how you fuckin' doin', come on let's get funky funky fucking funky" would you scream like a girl and get all
excited?

Is it just Fuck your after or would you like a cunt or too? What about a shit, too soft for you I guess.
