Name me 1 person on the scene that can write, produce and perfom ballads like P?...

coz I damn sure can't!. Even if we only took the ballads since 2004 I can't think of anyone who comes close to the lyrics, musical composition, musical ability, originality and production that P has. Look at trax like 'The dance', 'better with time', 'Sleep on the couch' etc , the man is incredible. Oh and pleeeese don't throw any current r&b fools like 'John Ledgend'at me!.

though the songs you mention aren't, in my opinion, his strongest/best ballads, I think the lack of responses to your question .... is your answer !

Stevie Wonder has written, produced, composed and performed some of the greatest ballads of all time.
I believe even Prince would site Stevie as the greatest in that respect.

I don't see anyone 'current' as a peer, though.
Most current R & B is just repetition. (No joy in that repetition, though.)

isn't this exactly what people are always complaining that the 'haterz' do? compare prince to other artists?

what's the point?

I would like say NO - we are merely talking about other Real Musicians, no matter what type of music he/or she plays.

I love Prince - I am most certainly NOT a Hater. Prince himself respects other musicians.

Just had to clear that up. wink

You know I was listening to some of his 1978 stuff.... it is incredible he was so talented at such a young age, now AFTER 30+ years he must be at the height of his game.

Only Prince can perform ballads like Prince. Jill Scott performs her ballads with a passion like Prince. But no one current moves me like Prince. I don't think anyone that I've heard lately is on that level yet. As far as Jill goes though, She's lyrically gifted. Her songs are tastefully nasty, the music is strangely beautiful and she tells a story.

I do like Jill's My love,Only You,All I,Crown Royal,The Fact Is (I Need You), Spring Summer Feeling. This is Just a few of a nice selection of her songs.

If the only criteria is ballads, then Sarah McLachlan is a serious contender.

• Did you first think Prince was gay? •

Wendy: He’s a girl, for sure, but he’s not gay. He looked at me like a gay woman would look at another woman. Lisa: Totally. He’s like a fancy lesbian.
