paisley park, chanhassen & prince's property

hello orgers! i live in minnesota and am currently staying in chanhassen with my cousins. they live really close to paisley park (which is so awesome to drive by everyday!)

but i mentioned in a thread a few months ago that i heard through the grapevine that he may "open" paisley back up again for concerts and such. i don't know much more than that, sorry it's so vague.

however, i was driving by the property where his house used to be today and it makes me sad that i never saw the house (maybe i did when i was younger...i'm only 23, so i don't remember). but in reality it makes sense that he tore down the house, b/c there are so many neighborhoods with families surrounding the area that it really is no place for a musician to live. BUT, if he did decide to rebuild i would totally support that smile the piece of land he owns is so incredibly beautiful.

i was talking to my aunt and she said she used to see the purple plymouth prowler driving around chanhassen from time to time. it is so strange to think that he used to hang around these parts--one of my friends saw him at the grocery store and shook hands with him, he was buying sushi (WTF!!)

anyway, this is really longwinded...but i'm wondering what all of you think...
do you think prince will ever rebuild in minnesota or do the paisley park concerts again? or has that era passed?

I doubt he'd build there again. He's at an age when anyone in their right mind who lives in the upper midwest (where the winters are long and harsh) at least starts to think about living someplace warmer. He's got the money to do it, so he has.

If he's going to be in Minneapolis (to work or visit), I'm sure he has a place somewhere...

He still records in Paisley Park. As far as performances go....

It seems to me that he really used Paisley Park/Minneapolis as a hideout or refuge from the business in the 1990's. He was happy to chill at home and not be in "The Dream Factory". Now he is playing the game and is in LA. He did the same in the 80's for awhile. Don't worry...he put the skyline on his newest album (twice). To me, it's like The Terminator... he'll be back.

I think it makes more sense for him to be in LA. That's where everything is. Not to mention, studios are not like they used to be. He can afford to put a studio in any home he lives in and doesn't have to rent a studio.

To me, since he's been back in Cali, his music seems much more happier. It's not like the music he made in Minneapolis. I think in Minneapolis, he was too sheltered from the real world. At least in Cali, it's a LA LA world.

Have you driven by his house on Galpin? It's about a mile from PP. Go west on Audobon, then north on Galpin. It's right up the road. (This is not his original purple house that was torn down; it's the one seen in the Gett Off videos). Cut and paste this into Google Earth or Google Maps, and it'll take you to it:

44°52'23.50"N 93°34'22.76"W

Be sure to chose "Satellite" to see the actual aerial shot.

If you pan South East, you'll see Paisley Park. It's pretty close.

If u listen close toward the ending of "the 1 eye want 2 c" he(and i am Sketchy on the exact words..but what i hear is something about minnesota with a big downtown and other stuff and then he says ain't going back there no no no.....So i take it he no longer will reside in Minnesota except for recording purposes...but I'm sure that wherever he decides to do the work next would be all a part of the plan.....I would be happy if he did decide to come back to Minnesota though because u never know when you might run in2 him and its usually when u least expect 2(And u be dressed in your worst clothes)

U gotta b joking, right!!!!!shocked shocked In my opinion, Minneapolis WAS, and still is, the real world!!!!! LA is just one big fantasy land where people havent got a clue what the real world is and, sadly, Prince has succumbed to that fantasy mentality!!!

When he lived in Minneapolis, I think Prince was more connected with real life judging by his lyrics from those times and also he was more connected with himself, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and even sexually!!!!! And now he just seems so DISconnected with everything!!!! sad sad sad

Then again, he wrote and recorded some of his best songs of the 80s in LA and on the road.Remember all those Sunset Sound studio sessions. Some fans believe that everything started going downhill when he opened Paisley Park.

nod

He may have even written the songs in MPLS, but when he recorded them in LA, the song took on a different life.

I can see your point with this, actually!! We used 2 live in Marshall, Minnesota during the latter half of the 90s, and my husband and I went through a couple of very bad experiences there, which I wont go into now, and so we had 2 move, and because of that my husband doesnt want 2 step one foot in that city again for as long as he lives!!!!! Once we had 2 go back there 2 sort some business out there and I suggested we stayed overnight cos it was a long drive back 2 where we lived at the time and he refused so we had 2 endure a really long drive back home!!!!

So really in that aspect I can see how a place can carry memories, either good or bad and it can really affect a person!!!

He tore down the first house he had back in the purple rain days that his dad ended up living in once he moved to the one on Galpin, not this one. (He mentions the Galpin house in "Zanalee" too, btw.)

I am talking about the house on Galpin. I was under the impression that he tore down the house on Kiowa Trail (or whatever the name of that street was) that was purple, and had the Peace and Love sign on the gate. His father lived in the house after Prince moved to Galpin, and when John died, he tore it down. The house on Galpin was that Chiquita yellow, (since he was into yellow around that time), and was not torn down, I thought.
