why no airplay

the album debuted at #2, there are videos for several songs, why isn't there any airplay (or at least any reports of airplay)?

Is there even an official single? There certainly are plenty of hit worthy songs in this release.

I have said this for two weeks now. Not so much him not putting a single onto radio but the fact he hasn't been seen since Leno. Where is prince? Getting ready for a tour?

This is the beginning of the end for Prince.

No Marketing
No Radio Play
No new fans....

I guess he's happy with 20,000 online fans and 185,000 albums sold world wide.

Prince's EGO...is the biggest reason he isnt on the radio today.
It's really sad.

I haven't heard any of Prince's new songs on the radio. However, I have heard the Target commercial(which plays a clip of one song from each album) many times on the radio.

Radio is generally commercialised, pre-ordained playlists, that's why!

Also over here in the UK what would they say after playing him; "Yep that was Prince, he's great, get yourself an airline ticket to buy that album at any Target store."

Handy.

If you believe that you need your head examined. Radio is not going to play anything by a 50 year old black man and yes race matters. That being said what he has sold so far is good for an artist getting no radio play and doing a little bit of promotion better than a lot of younger artist.

Musicology was a "hit" because of a loop hole in sales. Had he not given it away to every ticket buyer, it would not have "sold" 2 million records.

"Call my Name" was on rotation on urban stations, MAYBE, and was on BET here and there.

"Guitar" = "some airplay". I wonder how many Verizon V-cast users actually bothered to use their phone to identify the song and download it for free.

Raves about his performance of old songs at the Superbowl doesn't mean he has a hit on the radio. It means he had his 15 minutes during intermission.

Grammy doesn't equal airplay.

There is no market major pushing/plugging P at the radio.

To some extent, you're very correct, Laura. 14 year old tweens don't even really know who Prince is (although there are fans in every demographic still today), much less care about Purple Rain, or know what he's done in music. My neighbor is 21, and she JUST saw Purple Rain last year when I sat her down and watched the movie with her. She knew "When Doves Cry", and maybe "raspberry beret", and it ended there. She listens to the radio all the time and can sing just about every song on the radio (even before I hear ABOUT a song, she knows the lyrics). She knew nothing of Prince beyond what I stated. Prince ain't Usher. Prince ain't Ne-Yo, and THAT is why he ain't on the radio.

No official release of songs = No radio airplay.

Yes, he's made 2 videos but that doesn't mean the the songs have been 'officially' released.
