Lotus / MPLS 09 Tour - Opening Act The Time (speculation)

Prince should stick to his guns and tour the US in support of Lotus / MPLS and drop all of the hits , just like it was stated back in 2004. Prince did this once before with The Rainbow Children album and should do this again for these two albums wich are filled with enough material for an entire concert. And since both of the new albums are throughbacks to the good old days , why not have the Time as the opening act in support of their new release.Prince gave the fans what they were asking for with Lotus / Mpls , now how about singing all of these songs live and only sprinkling a few hits in toward the end of the set. P.S. do smaller venues so only the real fans show up and U don't have a bunch of A-holes sayin "I can't believe he didn't play When Doves Cry , Kiss , Cream or Batdance !?!"

Sod touring the US - he needs to come back to his 'Home away from home' in the UK!

OK - he can do a SMALL tour in the US.. but then it's back over here with him, quick sticks! wink

Or Sheila E or Wendy and Lisa, though I think that would be too hard on all of them.

He didn't completely drop the hits during the One Night Alone tour. At the concert I attended he played a number of hits (mostly during the very long encore). Regardless, I would like to see a show where he played a lot of the new stuff and did some older stuff at the end and during the encore. I don't care where he goes, as long at it is in the Easter US. I live close enough to NYC, Boston, Cleveland, Baltimore, DC, Philly, Pittsburgh, and Toronto and Montreal.

I would love a tour that was heavy on new stuff from the last five albums:
TRC
Musicology
3121
PE
Lotusflow3r/Mplsound

Of course he could throw some hits in to please everyone, but I am so ready to hear more of the newer stuff live. I think the type of venues that he chooses will be a good indicator of the set lists. The ONA tour was at smaller venues so we got more new stuff and some rarities. However, Musiciology was an arena show so it was heavy on hits, which makes sense. I'm hoping for smaller venues this time. Although, at the end of the day I just love seeing the man perform live. biggrin

Although the Fam might be open to tour w/ Prince, they probably won't. It'd be a fun idea. Their new album is going to be awesome, having heard clips of it. It seems the actual name "the Family" is in question as to its usage. I think they should drop "The" and just go with "Family". The Jacksons did it when they left Motown, and it was fine. But whatever... The Time would be fun to open. Of course the DREAM ticket is for a few gigs w/ the Revolution. He's THIS close it seems.

It's surprising that he hasn't toured in so long. Can't imagine he'll totally skip out on the hits. Than again, just a tour filled with new and rare tracks (even "rare" as in released album only songs) would be cool.

I dont think he's going to tour the way he did back in 2004 again. I think he may do select venues with these albums and use the memberships to possibly sell a dvd or the concert footage, to the parts of the us and others that he doesnt tour for. I seriously think that Prince has let the "hits" go for the most part, at least doing extensive tours with them. I think he will go back to the ONA vibe type set lists by doing what hes got out now, selecting some stuff he doesnt often do live and then tossing in a hit or two or classic for the fans that need to hear "Adore" for the 750,000th time.

Yeah i just makes tons more sense for him. He isnt at a point where he should be doing large venue shows and in my opinion he is not an arena type performer and never was. Thats not saying he cant sell it out, thats not what im saying, he is just not that type of performer. Also people forget when he toured last in 2004, ALOT of things were different, this was marketed as the LAST tour for the hits, also he was riding the Grammy Performance wave and the RRHOF induction and it all was happening at the same time, plus he had a one off with Sony, and a free cd bundle thing, so alot has changed in 5 years, and i think that all points to a small venue, select city type tour.

They go by the Family 2.0 and St Paul Allan Leeds & Susannah are have been speaking with Prince. They also want him to do a song with them. The music I've heard so far seriously sounds like 'the Family' I love it, and Eric Leeds sax touch just makes me see paisley

Same here, It would have to be stuff that went well with 'the Minneapolis Sound' and the rock album,

I don't believe in 'the Hits' but I like Rarities: pull out Traffic Jam, pull out songs we have never heard live from the 'hits albums'

with Minneapolis SOund I would love to hear music with that stronly distinctive sound, not just anything. Possessed, Our Destiny, Space, 3121, Rock Hard In A Funky Place

Lotus Flower + Rainbow Children definately + Lovesexy + Around the World in A Day and of course pull music hereand there from albums that blend well...pull out more vault music and take some more risks.

(outside of Alphabet St with the country jam touch) He hasn't really played much from that album(Lovesexy) live since then.

I doubt we'll see him in Europe, but either way I'd be happy to hear he has ditched the hits and is only playing material from the last two decades.

confused

This is a bit of schizophrenic request. On the one hand you want him to play only new stuff. Then you want him to throwback and open with The Time. Then you want him to have a few hits. And finally you want smaller venues, because of the 'a$$holes' who couldn't believe he didn't play his hits?

I think it would be good for him to tour in a similar vein to the 3 concerts in one night, loads of the new and some unexpected dips into rarities! Small venues - agreed, but let as many of us hear him - World Tour! wink

Prince would do an album focused concert since the early days.
Of course the earlier the album the less choice he had..
Yet he was always known back then to included 1-3 songs that were (unreleased or possibles for the next album) All The Critics Love U was performed prior 2 1999 at the 1st Avenue show

we got a taste of the conversation from Temptation at the Purple Rain tour

Superfunkicalifragisexy was introduced during the SOTT show (1st time was the Open Rehearsals show at 1st Ave during Strange Relationships)

A lot of people talk about the Hits leave em or love em, do them or don't do them. And the fact of the matter is most of his music he hardly performs...
the Controversy concert featured most music from Controvery & Dirty Mind
the 1999 concerts features mostly music from Controvery 1999 and a few from Dirty Min
the Purple Rain tour featured 1999 & Purple Rain music
the Parade tour featured Parade music 1999 Controversy ATWIAD and Head

there is so much music from his more prolific time that has hardly or never been performed that the idea of not hearing the 'hits' to me doesn't make sense

In the last year he has been pulling out a few more songs like U Got the Look, If I Was Your Girlfriend, Sometimes It Snows In April

I think there are shows that should just be a live presentation of an album
I don't think ATWIAD ever got a good show
but Lotus Flow3r should get a full show with just music from that album plus slide in the Divine or an (outtake) from that album, do the same with Minneapolis Sound

and then do a whole different Lotus Flower show with songs throught his career that mesh with the vibe of this album, he would have to get a guitarist to do this show cause it's a rock showing: I'd call up Wendy & Dez (no other guitarist have the chemistry with him that they do)

i don't see prince making an appearance on this album. you know what i'd love to hear? i'd love to hear the album starting off with an answering machine message of prince giving them his blessing, or telling them to make it funky, or something like that - and that's it from prince. that'd be sweet. cuz honestly, i'm looking forward to this album, and it has nothing to do with wanting prince to be on it.
