ReCount

With the speculation surrounding Soundscand's reporting of LotusFlow3r sales, the extremely close margin (3042) of units sold (as reported by Soundscan) and the reported discprency of sales betwee Hits and Soundscan of 17,498;

Is a recount in order?

i think there's something just a shade shady going on, but at the end of the day i have to think about all the new, struggling bands who would give their front teeth to have the number two album in the whole country, and how many number ones prince has already celebrated. it's not the biggest indignity ever to befall mankind, but it's still stinkin' weird and shady. shrug

I hate to say it....but everything is political now-a-days.We can no longer count on people of power to do the right thing...we can only rely on their ability to do what is in their best interest!

I'm still waiting for Minnesota's senate race to be decided after numerous recounts. Fuck a ridiculous tally of my entertainment dollars.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I don't know if this has been said in another thread but the reason that 20,000 albums weren't counted may have something to do with the fact that Prince's album was released on a Sunday. Albums are usually released on Tuesday so maybe Soundscan saw that Prince's early release gave him an advantage didn't count the 2 days sales. Just a theory.

This is from Dr Funkenberry's site:

Music industry insiders are scratching their heads as very recently a substantial amount of cd’s were not counted on a certain chart for a particular artist.

There have been meetings at different labels discussing this very thing today.

Manipulation has come into question of a certain chart because of the amount we are talking about and the company that reported the numbers has never been caught inflating numbers before.

Will this be swept under the rug?-Dr.FB

maybe i just don't understand how soundscan tallies their numbers, but there is only one retailer for the album. it should be trivial to simply request the total from target.
