Why Lotusflow3r going No1 IS important (to me anyway) Is it important or does it matter even if the new 3 cd set hits number one?

I really don't think 3121 debuting at #1 mattered in the grand scheme of things. Sure, Prince got some extra attention for a week, but it's not like radio rediscovered him or anything.

It really won't make much difference if LF is #1 or #2 this week. If Prince keeps having number 1 albums maybe even the money men running radio may think hold on people are buying Prince records maybe we should play the occasional one which may give us more listeners and then more add revenue etc. you never know There is never a traffic jam on the extra mile

It'll be nice if he has a number one but it certainly won't help him get noticed over here. I can't believe he hasn't sorted something out for this set in the uK, to build on what he started with the O2 and Planet Earth. There weren't many who didn't know Prince was doing soimething big here in the summer of '07 but how many of those know that he has some new stuff out? And now for a cup of tea.

Prince's legacy has already been cemented. Everything now is just icing on the cake. If he gets radio hits, chart topping albums, sell out tours...it's all gravy, but doesn't really add to what he is/how he is perceived by the mass public and history.

Prince has always been more about artistry, than numbers. Unless he starts molesting kids, he is in a spot where his legend will only grow with time regardless of charts, radio, and hits. [Edited 4/6/09 12:42pm] Dispite what his personal life was like as it played out in the media; he has to be respected for remaining true to himself and the course he has set for himself musically.

[Edited 4/6/09 12:42pm] Personally i feel between 1995 and 2003 his legacy was pretty dented by the name change fiasco and lack of chart success. People didn't talk about what a great muscian and songwriter/performer he was during this period just what a crank he was I would like the upswing in respect to continue and a number one album would garner further respect from the wider audience There is never a traffic jam on the extra mile

I used to do the same-used and try and get off school and listen to the charts and get really frustrated if Prince songs didn't chart high enough (UK here by the way) and used to real smile if all was going well. I know it's sad but there you go. Today I see that it is not as relevant because Prince has got that-"I can sell out an Arena with no hits coz I've been around forever" kind of thing going on.He is regarded as genius without the requirement of on going proof and to be fair very few artists go on to have chart success forever-Prince has done well in this respect. The industry is ageist. I know people are going to cite Madonna etc but these are exceptions that proove the rule and her focus is to achieve that-she's sell a child to get to number one-if she could get over the habit of adopting them that is. However I do love it when Prince does well because you do get tired of justifying him to others. Charts take away that pressure as those that hate him or defend others as great when they are clearly not usually refer to sales as proof of their tastes and on this level you can't really fight back. Prince is too famous for one to argue musicality-when someone is as well known as Prince chart failure looks to many like failure as a whole

Album position doesn't mean much in the UK. Now if he had a no1 single....

I mean 1995-2003 is when Prince wasn't really "playing the game" so he got little love from the mass media. Since 2004, he has been more media friendly and so he gets more positive coverage. I would like the upswing in respect to continue and a number one album would garner further respect from the wider audience
Ultimately I ask you this: Why do you need everyone else to like Prince? I get that it's cool when everyone else respects/digs your fav musician, but why the need to defend him to others? Why not just tell everyone to fuck off and do what you are going to do? Prince will continue to make music and be genius either way... "I'VE GOT A MIND FULL OF GOOD INTENTIONS

The way that they add this chart up, I do not think he will get number 1. I think they add the totals by retailer. Since Prince is only at one retailer, Keith Urban has a definite possibility of overcoming Prince.

You ask i reply Hell i remember my peers giving me stick back in '85 when ATWIAD was released "hey whats all that indian music shit on Prince's new album" was a common comment so what "others" say doesn't effect my own enjoyment or influence me one iota however i would like Prince to have more universal recognition of his talent and unique genius and i feel this happens with a number 1 record and the subsquent attention that this generates here ends the sermon and i looks like another number 1 could happen There is never a traffic jam on the extra mile
