Why Lotusflow3r going No1 IS important (to me anyway)

Is it important or does it matter even if the new 3 cd set hits number one?

The answer to me is yes why i will tell you

Back in the day when i was a little teenager during the 80's i used to love listening to the chart coming out and seeing how Prince did I can still remember all his chart postitions for singles in the US and i live in

god damn England i remember being mad raspberry beret only hit no2 annoyed as hell at Mountains poor chart position and annoyed as hell that SOTT stalled at No3

Cream hit number 1 hell i smiled all day even as a god damn symbol TMBGITW hit number 3 and wow number ONE (his only one ) in the UK

Then the chart postitions started to flounder young fans started to not even know who the hell Prince was at first i didnt care so what i could still buy the albums

Then i forget the year 2001 I think he came and did some dates in the UK a small venue cant remember where it was now either Brixton Academy or the like and basically no one cared!!!!!

The press and public were forgetting he existed I am not talking about the quality of his releases just how it was perception wise

Now from my point of view i consider Prince to be a genius and without being a total fam an important part of my past and present so for him to be forgotten irrelevant UNNOTICED was a major bummer

Then something happened Musicology and the fanatastic tour (and giveaway obviously) sent the album up the charts to No3 people noticed him again

Then damn, 3121 hits number 1, charts equal publicity recognition and party time again. I want this to continue i want Prince to be relevant i want prince to be respected and rememebered chart success unfortunately

or fortunately helps that i want everyone to recognise the genius that is Prince and the best way for that to happen is Number 1 success and all the hoopla that goes along with that

I could have been more eloquent but hell all i know is the last 5 years as a Prince fan have been far more fun than the 8 years that preceded it

I really don't think 3121 debuting at #1 mattered in the grand scheme of things. Sure, Prince got some extra attention for a week, but it's not like radio rediscovered him or anything.

It really won't make much difference if LF is #1 or #2 this week.

Prince's legacy has already been cemented. Everything now is just icing on the cake. If he gets radio hits, chart topping albums, sell out tours...it's all gravy, but doesn't really add to what he is/how he is perceived by the mass public and history.

Prince has always been more about artistry, than numbers. Unless he starts molesting kids, he is in a spot where his legend will only grow with time regardless of charts, radio, and hits.

Those basterds should play it away we pay their damn wages...

sounds like we need to get organised and barrage radio one with requests for prince songs.

I don't care. It's no.1 to me that's all that counts.

The way that they add this chart up, I do not think he will get number 1. I think they add the totals by retailer. Since Prince is only at one retailer, Keith Urban has a definite possibility of overcoming Prince.

I understand what you are saying here. However, isn't it sad the public "perception" is bought and sold to us? I mean 1995-2003 is when Prince wasn't really "playing the game" so he got little love from the mass media. Since 2004, he has been more media friendly and so he gets more positive coverage.

I would like the upswing in respect to continue and a number one album would garner further respect from the wider audience

Ultimately I ask you this: Why do you need everyone else to like Prince? I get that it's cool when everyone else respects/digs your fav musician, but why the need to defend him to others? Why not just tell everyone to fuck off and do what you are going to do? Prince will continue to make music and be genius either way...

You ask i reply I have been a Prince fan for 27years and never missed a tour to the UK Since and including Parade '86 I have happily bought any prince music i could get my hands on and enjoyed my personal favs on each.

Hell i remember my peers giving me stick back in '85 when ATWIAD was released "hey whats all that indian music shit on Prince's new album" was a common comment so what "others" say doesn't effect my own enjoyment or influence me one iota

however i would like Prince to have more universal recognition of his talent and unique genius and i feel this happens with a number 1 record and the subsquent attention that this generates

I think you've lived the same life as me-ha ha. Always had to defend Prince-but secretly can't win because I always liked to do so in a kind of self righteous way.
Anyway you must be pleased today as Prince looks like he has his number 1.I struggle like you with the need for Prince to be successful and always want him to be rich. I think it's just a sense of injustice that he may not be getting his dues (Which I think he is now) when you see the wealth some "Stars" have.

However we must remember that though Prince's marketing model seems quite successful, without the old radio and singles structure albums will not have any longevitity so sales turn into the Morrissey thing-one mad rush then bang gone. At least I suppose this way we see the size of Prince's core audience. And if we are honest if it wasn't for Purple Rain his later albums in the 80's would not have sold as well-imagine Lovesexy in its uniqueness selling anyway nearly as much without the fame he had already generated

Anyway I'll shut it now-Prince is number 1
