CONSIDER THIS....

What if Prince played it right and decided to lay low... for a decade. What I mean is, what if he didn't release nothing in the 2000's? Let's say that's what happened and after Rave he didn't release shit, but decided to lay low like some other greats have done. And then in 2009, the 25h anniversary of Purple Rain - and more importantly his 30th anniversary of being in the industry - he dropped a 14-18 track album consisting of the best stuff off of Rainbow Children, Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth, and Lotusflow3r! Can you imagine? Can you fuckin' imagine? First... all hardcore fans would be hungry as hell for new records. The media and general public would be interested to hear something new since its been forever. But most importantly, the album would totally kick ass and maybe go down as one of his top 5 and maybe the greatest comeback of last 20 years.

Just my 2 cents.

Except for the fact:
there are too many varying opinions of what the best/worst tracks are...
pick any album from the time period you mention, if you go back and read reviews
of those albums you will find there is NO consensus as to which songs are among his greatest and which are, um, not...
Granted, an album with all my favorites from the past 10 years would be fantastic (to me), but an album of your favorites... maybe not.
Just a thought. biggrin

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. I think laying low would be a good idea for him. After all he has released over 30 albums with no break in the action in thirty years.

WHAT EXACTLY WOULD THE TRACKLIST BE IF HE DID THAT WITH THOSE ALBUMS?
He that has one eye is a prince among those that have none.

I think he should just release everything he's got - and let me edit as I like for my own purposes. shrug
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I agree, there are so many songs that I like that others don't seem to care for, and vice versa. Prince fans have such a diverse taste when it comes to his music, and he has so many great songs that he has put out, that it would be virtually impossible to please everyone with a "greatest hits" cd at this point in his career. Besides, I think I would go crazy without any new releases from Prince for a year, let alone a decade! I'm such a junkie!
