I'm sure he wants to sell well, so I hope Target does a good job advertising (i.e. television and/or radio). Learn from Planet Earth. Also, I wonder how the sales will be counted on the album chart... One album? Three albums? Won't count at all? Regardless, I'm looking forward to getting it.

Soundscan, the CD sales tracking system for North America, will count each triple-set sold as one unit. Billboard will use this data to determine chart placement.

Typically, albums are released in the U.S. on Tuesdays, and SoundScan tracks weekly sales data from Monday through Sunday. Target's sales week runs from Sunday to Saturday, so Lotusflow3r 's figures won't be released until the following week.


The Recording Industry Association of America (or RIAA) "has double albums being tabulated as two separate units when it comes to gold and platinum awards, as long as the combined running time of the two discs is at least 120 minutes. And as a three-CD set clocking in at exactly 180 minutes, Emancipation had to ship 666,666 copies to be certified as a 2-million-seller by the RIAA's standard."

There you have it: Soundscan collects sales data from the retail industry (including digital albums and singles) while the RIAA's certification levels are based on unit shipments (minus returns).

I wouldn't bet against hmv.com selling it in the UK. Just about everyone else has gone bust! Bought the new Elbow live CD/DVD through their website the other week and then the distributors went bust. So it's coming from HMV now.
