My homage to: The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker (careful: drippy)

This is my favorite song of all the songs in the world since I've listened to it for the first time and it always will be until I listen to a better song which I don't think will happen.

Tears of joy run down my face at least once a year when I listen to it and I try not to listen to it too much and for only a few weeks during the year as I'm afraid that I will get used to it and lose my love for it. Also only if everything is going well in my life I listen to it as like a perfume you wear to a funeral the smell of it will always make you remember and put you in a sad mood.

The opening line just before "...Dorothy was a waitress" is what I like the most and it puts a smile on my face. I don't know why I'm into this song so much. Maybe it's because I'm blonde and tall and get tips in my job as well and "Sounds like a real man to me" is something I would say. Princes singing voice and the sound of the song opens my heart and gives me happiness.

Unfortunately I went to only one concert + aftershow so far and of course beforehand I prayed that he would play the song and during the aftershow he did! That put me in such a happy shock that I don't even remember if he sang "I ain't too hungry" or something else. And now I got a new fear: What if this was the only time in my life that I heard this song life?

Do you have a song like that? Write your homage!

Perfect/Beautiful/Complex Song! My favorite Prince songwriting persona. Have you seen the live Jay Leno version? Very cool and jazzy.

What does the song mean to you? A respite from a bad relationship? Metaphor for sexual tension? An affair of the heart?

Totally agree, brilliant song.

I've just started listening to Joni Mtichell, whom I have heard said was an influence on Prince.

Does anybody know what Joni song Prince is referring to in Dorothy P....he sings the line:

Mind if I turn on the radio .....it was Joni singing "Help Me, think I'm falling" Dring phone rang...and so on.

Be cool to know what the title of this Joni song is..it would make listening to Dorothy Parker even better.

Thank you.
I heard the rip when you sat down!

No I haven't seen the Jay Leno version sad

I guess I'm just a lot like D. Parker but I've never met a man who would leave his pants on cool Luckily enough I always tense it when the guy is with someone and then I stay away from him.

The Jay Leno version is fantastic and IMHO one of the best, most understated performances he has ever done.

Go find it wink

in London when he performed "the balled of dorothy parker" (aftershow 18/08) he also said "yeah let me get an apple martini with some hot sauce on the side, instead of a fruit cocktail wink
