I really liked his version of Betcha By Golly Wow. The old NPG was a very tight band, and you can hear it in this song, Michael B´s drumstyle and Sonny´s bass shine through, and even though making this the first single was , IMO, a bad idea, I still like what he did with it.
I also agree with Dr.Goldsmoke....One of Us was a superb cover, a gazillion times better than Joan Osbourne´s version.
Sure, his live covers are ultimately better but so are most of his own songs, except for a few songs that sound better as studio versions ( like When Doves Cry and If I Was Your Girlfriend but that´s a whole different topic).

That's your opinion and I disagree with you. This new one "Crimson and Clover" and "Betcha By Golly Wow!" were great studio covers. Of couse this is my opinion. wink
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I'm pretty sure I'll go to my grave being the only one who liked his cover of Every Day Is a Winding Road.

But like it I did. That is all.

Case Of You in the studio is one of the most beautiful things he has done in recent years, so although he has done some bad ones, I'd have to disagree with you too.

:thumbsup:Prince really knows how to improve an already good song. I think he is truly one of the masters of cover versions. The only letdown, IMO, is that he has been overdoing it a bit in the past couple of years. Then again, sometimes he takes an already great song and totally makes it his own.
My all time favorite is probably his 1983 version of A Case Of You....but that was a live version, as most of us know. The studio version is also nice.
