would u tell Prince his music sucked?

if u really didnt like a certain album or song, would u tell him it sucked to his face? would u have the guts? i dont think i could do it
i know people will say "but i like every album/song" just think of it hypothetically then

IamtheDJ

Given that I can't play any instrument, couldn't write a song if my life depended on it and am tone deaf - then (apart from my humble opinion of what I like and don't like) I don't think I am in any position to constructively critique Prince's work.

Also I don't know of any song that is universally disliked by all his fans. One mans Jughead is another mans Kiss!!!

I agree chili

And there are artists who can appreciate that honesty while some other artists might find it harder to accept an opinion like that.
A radio-dj i know told a few times his honest opinion to artists about their albums or singles and they respected that.
I can imagine though that it can be a tough cookie to swallow by hearing those comments because quality time has been spent by composing and recording their work.

I knew someone would bring this up about it being a "business" lol. Seriously if they are in the "business" they should know not everyone will agree on if they like it or not. I'm sure they have saw/heard worse from critics that are much harsher then what we are saying in this thread if his music did "suck" rolleyes

Well said. If I happened to meet Prince, I would be too busy complimenting him on the 95% of his music that I absolutely love to worry about the few songs that I do not care for.

I & everyone else that makes products for sale gets to hear that one of their products sucks.
I like asking the younger kids because they will not hesitate, and will not mince words, when something they think sucks, or is awesome. It doesn’t bother me anyway.
So the answer for me is yes.
They are just opinions, and a honest opinion is always best.
Some random fanboy or girl posting that something sucked is not going destroy him, artist learn to have ultra thick skin,I think its constructive really.

I agree. Absolutely no excuse for rudeness lol However, I like constructive criticism. I hate telling people something I do not mean. Some people think it's better not to say anything then but I don't think it helps whoever needs to learn. It's all in the words we use and how caring we are to the person. I'd tell what I think with a smile, a touch or even a hug biggrin

Absolutely not. That's just rude number 1. I'm sure you would love to have someone come to your face and tell you that you fucked up on a meal you spent hours preparing for or any other job you have that means the world to you and have someone practically spit in your face telling you that you and your work ain't shit. Plus, why would you focus so much on what's wrong when you can use that same energy for focusing on what's right? Then again, this is the org and most people here LOVE to focus on what's wrong so I guess that logic doesn't apply here.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

If I were asked,I would like to think that he would want me to be honest. So yeah if I did'nt care for the song i would let him know,I don't think I would use the words "it sucks",but I would let him know that I myself personally did'nt care for it. smile

If I met Prince and he asked me about something in particular that I did not care for, I might be inclined to say so. I do not think I would say something "sucked". I would just say that it wasn't my favorite.
Still, upon meeting Prince I would first think about all of the good stuff, so he would have to bring up the stuff I didn't like.

No. Absolutely not.
If you don't like some of his music does'nt give you license to tell the artist that his music sucks. If you don't like it..cool. It's your opinion.
But as my grandfather used to tell me, "If u don't have anything nice to say, just be quiet!!! eek
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

So what...saying u dont like something simply because its not ure taste is being critical? eek
I guess that means honesty should be kept at a minimum and we all should just lie our asses off to make someone (in this case Prince) happy?

honestly if i was actually meeting prince i'd be too happy to remember anything negative i might think of any of his music...and i honestly don't think any of it sucks. some songs are better than others (in some cases way better) but if u werent comparing it to anything he's done b4, if it was comeing from an unknown new artist, would u feel the same way? now i might want to talk to him about his stance on prop. 8 but his music? naw.

Only if we're having a convo about his music and he asked if there are any songs I don't like, then I'd say which one(s). That's not being rude. Seeing him passin by and shoutin "Prince your music sucks!"...now that's rude and disrespectful.
On the other hand...Only delusional artists think that fans will like each and every song they've ever done. I'm sure there are artists whose music Prince doesn't favor much anyway, so it shouldn't be that hard to stomach that someone doesn't like some of his songs. It's just the reality of things.
I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh
