Prince has stated that it is fiction

I haven't listened to it in a long time, but I think there is a whole extra verse.

Do you still like banana daiquiris?
Boy, we used to get so tight
Ooooh you used to get so horny
And make me leave the lights on

I'd pay money just to see
Your laughin' dancin' silhouette upon the pier
Sometimes I think I hear you smilin'
Sometimes I think you're here

I find myself holding every pillow
In the bed you and I used to share
Last night I spent another lonely Christmas
Darlin' you should be you should be there to see

I'm 99.9% sure that lyric is:
"Boy, we used to get so DRUNK"

..but the way he says the word "drunk" is weird, so I can see how is has been misinterpreted. Plus, "we used to get so tight" doesn't make sense IMO.

Then you would be 99.9% incorrect. I transcribed this last night while listening to the track.

And "tight" totally makes sense...because "tight" is a euphemism for intoxicated.

Once you hear the full version, you'll never be able to stomach the edited version again. The missing verse is tolerable, but man, the whole instrumental ending is butchered in the edited version...

Nearly everything on 'The Hits/B-Sides' is butchered. I boycotted that with a vengeance. Even "Adore" is chopped! Since I own (and play) all of my vinyl albums and 12" extended/B-sides, I never have 2 hear an edited version of anything.

YES! I still have all my 12" singles from back in the day, too. That's why the edits on Hits/B-Sides hurt so much... like in the case of Another Lonely Christmas, I'd already been listening to the proper version for nine years!

Alas, no record player at the moment. Was pleased to see some of the old extendeds on iTunes though, but they don't sound as good as they could...

Prince! I'ma say it again: REMASTERS!!!
