So what's the deal with "The Gold Experience?"

How come "The Gold Experience" went out of print? Seems like it is an album with above average to excellent reviews, and I'd like to add it to my collection, but it's hard to find.

I'll probably pay a premium to get the disc eventually.

How come it's not reissued? Anybody know why?

Imago

unsure.

It's one of my favorite Prince albums. Some of his craftiest, cockiest, best material on that album.

That´s the only WB album where Prince actually owns the masters. That could be one reason.

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Here in the states it's hard to find any record shops period...the rise of digital music has pretty much driven all the record chains and mom & pop stores out of business.

I'll probably end up just going the Ebay route.

The funny thing is one time I was in the mood to go out and pick up "Chaos and Disorder" but I didn't want to pay too much for it. There was this little Japanese bookshop that sold used CDs, and what did they happen to have on sale for fifty cents but a MINT copy of "Chaos and Disorder."

For me to find "The Gold Experience" in a similar fashion, lighting would have to strike twice.

One other humorous Prince moment came when I was in a .99 cents store. The store had a huge pile of "EMANCIPATION" copies on cassette tape for a buck. They looked like a bunch of bricks. If they had the CD set I would have picked it up, but I haven't used cassettes since the early 90s.

shocked

Your library had that album? Must have been a cool place. Hell, the librarians at the ones in my town still think he's TAFKAP with the symbol. No clue he's Prince again. disbelief They are in books and magazine's all day Love of God, pick up one and read it. they'll learn something. I want to shake them!

It's 2008, if they don't know he's "Prince" by now...

brick

Had to just get that off my chest! wave

Well if anyone ever needs a reason for Warners to keep ownership of the Prince masters, that's it right there!

Thanks to everyone who told me to check out Amoeba Records. I went to the Los Angeles location on Sunset yesterday, as I was in LA running some errands.

Interestingly, the Prince section was filed under "Soul." I found this out after looking for Prince in the Rock/Pop section with no success.

Anyhow, the minute I saw the Prince section, there it was..."The Gold Experience." Not only was it the only copy left, the disc was in pristine condition. It literally looked like it was played once. The booklet was mint...I was lucky. The price was even a steal...$12.99.

I had to laugh as Amoeba must have had 50 copies each of "Musicology," "3121," and "Planet Earth."

They even had a copy of the multi-disc "Crystal Ball" for $19.99, but it was marked down cheap since one of the discs was in pretty bad shape.

I don't mind them too much, having listened to the album already.

However, when I burned the album to my Ipod, I left them out since I sometimes randomize my tracks. It would seem wieird for the Ipod to play the NPG Operator introducing a song, and then a completely different artist kicks in afterwards.
