I love the harmonies in this number. And the lyrics for the bridge are catchy AND cryptic, two things that are hard to achieve at once.

Given the title of the song, I didn't expect it to be a song about lost love He wrote in the album insert that this song was for Lisa, Wendy & Susannah, so I believe he wrote this song about them. It does have somewhat of that psychedelic edge that his music had while working with Lisa & Wendy and on its own, it stands up well against his 80's work. How'd we ever lose communication? How'd we ever lose each other's sound? Maybe if u wanna, we can fix the situation. Maybe we can stop the rain from coming down Never knew this was written for the ladies

This is one of the best-constructed songs I've ever heard. It's orchestral in its brilliance. Second Funkiest White Man in America

Also, i made a thread a few years ago claiming that the title of the song was a play on the word 'ice cream'. As this phrase was used alot during band rehersal and live performances by prince and the revolution

don't remember him saying it was from the vault. Lyrically and musically it was all very current at the time.

yeah...this is easily my favorite song off the album. The vocals r fairly unique and the punchy ass bass line is perfect and just sloppy enuff when it needs to be. But I think I'm kind of biased because not to long after it came out I had a break up with someone who had been a friend for a looong time. So it all just fit to perfect and got me all emotional and shit. I think I got more attached to it than I would have normally.
One bright day in the middle if the night,
2 dead boys got up to fight. Back 2 back they faced each other, drew their swords and shot each other A deaf Policeman head this noise, he came and shot the 2 dead boys. If you don't believe this lie

The whole trying to fix a situation of a realtionship thing got to me whilst having such a young child back then. The song still rings true in every sense still. Trying to keep it together is hard whichever way you look at it..

Definitely one of the better tracks from Emancipation...could fit easily on Dirty Mind or one of his earlier albums.

Emancipation is by far his most complete albulm ever! Hence, my refering 2 it as his Magnum Opus! It has SO many genres if music in it...the COMPLETE Prince! "At first I couldn't find the words to say
how much you changed my life in every way" -Prince '05

Yeah great classic P tune I think, Its a Shame its seemed to date quicker than it should along with alot of songs from that album. Not that im dissing it cuz Emancipation is easily 1 of my faves (with TGE and C&D) However it is beautiful lyrically and very catchy would of been a great single IMO....and I know this will sound strange it reminds me of japanese or chinese music, the way the melody goes and the music Everybody's looking 4 the ladder
Everybody wants salvation of the soul The steps U take are no easy road But the reward is great 4 those who want 2 go
