caught reading princes new book in public and erm....being slightly embarrased

i have testified to so many people over the years princes rawness-his amazing musicianship-his life is music etc HE IS MUSIC etc

so then you get caught reading his new book..or rather a grown man looking at a book of another man ridiclously posing on every page

and what???? 2 shots of a guitar-the rest that zoolander pout

then its almost like i have to start my arguement ALLLL over again

i can just imagine if i photographed one of my mates and he dropped the "prince pose"

ahem

i agree 200%. it's a silly book and it doesn't document anything. everything is so contrived, it's hard to look at.
the only shots i like are the ones of him on stage and with the purple bass. i seem to remember there being a lot of really good pictures coming out during the London run.

everything is actually bad photography. even the cd sounds contrived. glad i didn't buy it.

so yeah - i'd be embarrassed too.

dont you think the whole chelsea rogers thing is dumb? i mean....she serves no purpose whatsoever and adds nothing to the mystery of Prince or enhance anything.

I've only seen glimpses of the book actually, and had to suppress extreme laughter.

It's very very gay. I don't mean like 'dude that is sooooo gay', but gay in the gayest sense.

It's a bunch of highly airbrushed glamour shots.

But I think you have to think of Prince's intended audience. The book, and lackluster 'live' CD that came with it are for fans who wish to complete their Prince collections--the type of fan who probably own all his bootlegs, videos, and othere merchandise.
This wasn't meant for serious musicians, music lovers, or the general wider audience.

That being said, the book looked sooooo gay.

He could have kept the book and done a box set cd/dvd instead. I understand Randee's stylistic approach, but I prefer candid performance shots so it don't work for me. The whole thing just comes off as a shallow, contrived vanity project. I guess it's a collectible item but I still feel a bit like a sucker. lol Even the layout is poor quality on some pages where the subject of the photo is lost in the binding! I wouldn't hire her to shoot my kid's birthday party.

The cd is enjoyable but the only real hightlight for me is the incredible guitar on Whole Lotta Love.

I prefer the Prince Life And Times book that came out a week later. It's comprehensive with lots of career information from For You up to 21 Nights, great performance shots, fold out pictures, etc. I took both books to work and my co-workers found this one a lot more interesting.

Thumbed thru it once, ripped the CD, then took it back to Waterstones and said it was a duplicate b-day present, got a couple of graphic novels in exchange.

Listen you... lol

Any consumer is entitled to give feedback on a given product, good or bad. His product...my money, get it? He ain't giving it away.

Furthermore, if Prince should decide to put a permanent lock on everything and shut it all down for good, THE SUN WILL STILL RISE TOMORROW!

Get over that!

“As I said b4, this Book is strictly for the ladies. Not the fellas.”
Co-sign it is unfortunate that some of the fellas still do not get this. P does not care about you that much.
The book is for the ladies and the lack of candid shots was Randee’s idea since she has said she does not do candid shots.
Not that anyone wants to see P wearing jeans and eating Doritos !!!
In addition, the book did make the top ten of the NY Timers bestsellers so somebody likes looking at P’s face.

The book is a side project something to put out in between the last CD and the next one.

I was really dissapointed when I saw the pictures. I really thought it was gonna be some good "behind the scenes" type of stuff. But, it was just a glamour shot book. Pleeze. lol

What's this?!! eek I missed that, I like the sound of that a lot more too! I don't agree that this is 'one for the ladies', I've flicked through it once and haven't really bothered to look at it again (and I LOVE looking at Prince)...sad but true, and I was really looking forward to it too. It doesn't reflect the 21 nights experience at ALL does it? That experience was so real, vibrant and fun - apart from a couple of shots, like him standing outside the O2, I'm really not hugely impressed. sad

Romeoblu

I got the book just for the CD and at £13.50 it was a decent price for the CD which is pretty good.

The book however has no substance, it's all staged touched up nothingness.
