New York Post: Prince begs fans to turn off cell phones

http://www.nypost.com/sev...133484.htm

PRINCE rocked the Gansevoort Hotel rooftop over the weekend, but the show was nearly KO'd by audience members who refused to turn off their cellphones.

As the "Purple Rain" pop star prepared to take the stage, a panicked emcee announced the hundreds of cellphones in the room had knocked out Prince's high-tech sound system. He begged fans to shut them or "there may not be a show."

Some did, but many ignored the plea - including one publicist involved with the show - claiming they had to have them on at all times. "It was so obnoxious," one fan said. "To think a bunch of idiots can't exist without their precious cells for an hour."

Once the problem was solved, Dave Chappelle, Spike Lee, Anderson Cooper, Howard Stern and Dennis Rodman bopped to tunes like "1999" at the Inocente Tequila event benefiting Love 4 One Another. Earlier, Prince had Gansevoort staffers working hard to meet his fussy demands. "He's very anal and required a humidifier in every room of his suite and the windows blacked out," a source told us.

Turn off your mobile baby!! lemme get you Satisfied!

Seriously, a lot of medical clinics and hospitals have a "no cell phone on" policy due to cell phone interfering with machinery.

during one of the times i was lucky enough to have front row seats for a prince show, there was a woman right next to me who would NOT get off her cell phone for anything. of course, she was one of those obnoxious people who'd wave her phone in P's face whenever he got near our side of the stage, but mostly she was just blabbing through the whole show. she got the stinkeye supreme from me all night. whofarted

If you're that important (or think you are) that you can't shut off your phone for a concert or a movie, then don't go to the concert or a movie. It's freaking annoying - & distracting for people there to enjoy the show, not to mention rude. Texting during a show is also asshole behavior.

Which is apparently a load of crap. Although, anything that stops irritating people constantly using them is good, especially in a hospital where most people want a bit of peace. They should have told the audience that using mobile phones would cause Prince to perform only songs from Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic. They would have been stamping on their phones and destroying them then.

Aside from this being a simple request to turn off your cell phone so that whatever sound system is was would work, people should understand that they are at a performance and that it's a common courtesy to turn it off. You didn't go to see him perform to talk to people did you?

geeze.

People and their goddamn cell phones.

You are at a fucking PRINCE CONCERT. $1,000 tickets.

Put down your fucking crutch and enjoy the reality you are physically in.

When people get on the phone they are temporarily leaving the reality they are in as if they are too good for where they physically are.

Do I make sense with this?

Like being on a date with a girl who can't put her phone down for 5 minutes. Hello!? I can take the hint.... You'd rather be with the person you are yapping to than with me.

Am I alone with this sentiment?

no, i totally get what you're saying. it's a way to hedge your attention and focus away from the people right in front of you.

Haven't you all noticed the cell phone interference in stereo systems? It's worse around stuff like guitar amps, and louder.

Of course, Prince just doesn't want people taking his picture! smile

I get what you're saying to berniejobs!

People do that with cameras to...they're so busy "preserving" the moment that they are not actually "in" the moment.

Yes, exactly! It's like when you videotape a concert or your little daughter's 5-year-old birthday party. You really have no recollection of being there because you were busy operating the machine and making sure the angles were correct, etc. But at least you can watch the video of an event you weren't really 100% attending.

Is this true that cell phones can interrupt sound systems? I didn't know that. Even the digital ones?

Prince should just invest in one of these and call it a day:

http://www.amazon.com/Per...825&sr=8-1

Hell, I'd like to have one for myself and use it everytime I see some girl driving and yapping on a cell phone. Shut her down!

And for fun, take it to Wall Street and get all those blokes off their cell phones!

Endless fun!

People yapping in public on expensive-looking cell phones just remind me of grown up brats.

It tooks years of invention and creation and labor to get to where we are they we can speak on a mobile device like something out of the Jetsons.

These uppity women in powersuits did nothing and just bought the latest phone and think they're hot shit. What about the men in factories that labored over the creation and evolution of these devices and these brats just come along and start using them.
