Rock and Roll is alive (and its lives in minneapolis)

I was listening to this song. It is a great b-side but is it me or do you think that you wouldn't be able to place this song on any prince albums. It is so different?

The same could be said about lots of his b-sides.

I really love this song.

I'd place this as the opening of an album. Possibly 'Chaos and disorder'.

Prince wrote this song in response to Lenny Kravitz's "Rock N Roll Is Dead" song.

Not sure what Lenny was getting at, but I would consider a lot of his work as rock n roll. On another Prince/Lenny note...I was at a Paisley Park afterparty that was for Lenny after he did a concert in Mpls, and Lenny drove up in his tour bus with his entourage and came in. Prince and him jammed for awhile and Lenny said he was tired and had to go and Prince was giving him shit as he was walking out. He was drunk.

Yes, this song is hugely underrated, it is KICK ASS COOL! Just a shame it isn't widely known, an album release would have been cool.

I've never heard it either. But here are the lyrics at least.

(Rock 'n' roll is alive!)
Rock 'n' roll is alive (Rock 'n' roll is alive!)

(Rock 'n' roll is alive and it lives in Minneapolis!) {x2}

From all over the world the people came
Even the President flies in 2 worship a thing called fame
Red, white, and blue boy / girls - 2night everyone's the same
Some people say it's dyin', but we don't wanna play that game

Rock 'n' roll is alive and it lives in Minneapolis! (Sing!)
Rock 'n' roll is alive (and it lives in Minneapolis!)
Rock 'n' roll is alive and it lives in Minneapolis! (Sing!)
Rock 'n' roll is alive (and it lives in Minneapolis!)

Sure as the drive around Lake of the Isles is cool I know (Oh)
Rock 'n' roll will never die like the Minnehaha flow (Oh)
Sure as the land of a thousand lakes is sometimes made of snow
There'll always be another king 2 die butt-naked on the floor (Oh)

Rock 'n' roll is alive and it lives in Minneapolis! (Sing!)
Rock 'n' roll is alive (and it lives in Minneapolis!) (Oh)

Rock! Rock!
(Very impressive)
Rock! Rock!
(Sing!)

(Rock 'n' roll is alive and it lives in Minneapolis!) (Sing damn it!)

Rock! Rock!
Rock 'n' roll is alive! (Yeah!)
(Rock 'n' roll is alive and it lives in Minneapolis!) {x4}

I think Lenny was talking about the rock star lifestyle (groupies, drugs, drinking, partying, etc) and not the music itself in "Rock N Roll Is Dead".
Lenny's vid for "Where Are We Runnin'?" has this same theme, too.

That was awesome. I went to see Lenny Kravitz in concert and Prince came on stage and they did both of those songs there too.

Sounds promising!

That must've been fun 2 attend. I have Lenny's greatest hits...My favorite song by him is, "Stand by my Woman."

i was a b-side to gold. I has a sax sample that was used on sever songs/mixes in that era.....p control remixes, get wil mixes. Part of the reason Tommy took off....he was relegated to playing samples.
