I gotta agree those are really great tracks not to mention "We can Funk",
Im not saying GB is among the best P albums but I tend to think it often gets uderated there is definitly great stuff on it and its a reasonably vibrant colourful little album.

what? Question of U? Elephants & Flowers and Joy in Repition are worh the CD price by themselves[/quote]

Why wouldn't you buy an album from your favorite artist? It's the cheapest form of art. You probably throw away tons of money on much more disposable crap.

i have to confess, there IS a copy of '1999: the new master' in my home.

but it's not mine! IT'S NOT MINE!!!

it's my bf's copy. i shame him mercilessly about it whenever i can, but he still won't get rid of the damn thing. i think he keeps it for the same reason lois lane and jimmy olsen have little nuggets of kryptonite hidden under their beds, just in case of emergency they have an effective weapon.

I used to buy everything Day One, but like the rest of us, I've been burned by our boy a few times. wink

I actually like some of Planet Earth, but haven't yet worked up the jam to buy it... and that says what!

Also, I worked in a record store when NPS was released, listened to it, and kept my cash. Though lately I'm hearing that there's a good song on it... but I ain't buyin' it to find out!!! biggrin

I wouldn't classify it as "terrible", but it is worth purchasing it for "Mad Sex", "The One", "Come On" and "Until Ur In My Arms Again". Also for "Wasted Kisses" (the hidden track). If you see it cheap, I recommend it.

I would never have bought "The Truth" album if it had not been included in the "Crystal Ball" set.

I'll probably end up getting it sooner or later (more than likely as part of some kinda lot), but so far, I haven't got The Very Best Of Prince. It just seems pointless, especially compared to Ultimate Prince, and The Hits/The B-Sides.

I did lost my faith in Prince as a 'recording artist' with Emancipation, and somehow thought i did refind it with Musicology.

That means, the period 1996 - 2003 is mostly a 'no go' area for me.

I did buy Emancipation, but just far afterwards, for about 6 Euro's (9 dollar) in a sale out bin.

I rented New Power Soul at a CD-renting shop, but i dont have any plans to purchase it. The same goes for Rave unto the Joy Fantastic.

I have bought The Rainbow Children, but far afterwards its initial release (2004 or 2005 i guess).
I probably thought: hey, so many people here are praising that album, despite the annoying Darth Vader-voice, despite the brainwashed lyrics, despite the dated jazzrock-influences. Maybe i should buy it.
Result: i haven't played that album in about a year i think, and i still consider it a disaster.
Luckily it kept me from buying NEWS.

In this modern age, it is quite simple to download material like The Chocolate Invasion or The Slaughterhouse.
But apart from the occasional surprise (You make my sun shine) these 'albums' really arent worth obtaining, i think.

To conclude:
Stay away from the (internet) albums released during the period 1996 - 2003: wether its plastic sounding dance/funk or annoying religious dogma's put unto tiresome jazzrock.
They just don't do justice to what Prince is capable off.

i don't have either the very best and ultimate since their pointless compared 2 the hits/b sides..

plus with the help of a fellow orger, there is a better set of the ultimate in my collection
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
