I jumped in when they had Little Red Corvette,

1999
Lets Go Crazy
When Doves Cry
Girls and Boys
Kiss
Mountains
U Got the Look
Alphabet St
eye Wish U Heaven
Batdance
Partyman
Scandelous

now they have Thieves in the Temple.

All of these are the short versions, but it's nice background music while I'm on the laptop. smile

And I must say.... it always throws me when I see eye Wish U Heaven. It was such a rarity to see it back in 88/89, even rarer now to see it in a Prince compilation. They usually eschew that one.

Btw, they're playing New Power Generation. I think I saw this like 3 times in my life on BET back in 90/91. LOL

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

Speaking of Dirty Mind, two of the songs on that album are on the Best Song by Prince ranking on Rankopedia. "Uptown" is # 27 and "Head" is # 49. I agree those are some great songs. Check it out here and let's get these songs higher up the ranking! http://www.rankopedia.com...1/2998.htm

The associated artist videos are most interesting/comical to me. I don't even remember some of them - Vanity, Vanity 6 or Wendy and Lisa. I've never seen so many Prince-related videos.

Wendy doesn't even look herself in the "honeymoon express" video...maybe too much makeup? She looks decent, but she just looks unrecognizable.

'77 Hour Prince Marathon On VH-1 Soul This Weekend!

Posted in Celebrity News, Music with tags 77, Carmen Electra, Chaka Khan, Jill Jones, Morris Day, Pat Smear, Prince, Prince of Paisley Park, Purple Rain, Rosie Gaines, Sheena Easton, Sheila E., Stereofox, Taja Sevelle, The Family, The Time, Vanity 6, VH1 Soul, Wendy & Lisa on August 30, 2008 by drfunkenberry

Ok, we are going to be on a purple cloud all weekend; There is a 77 Hour Prince Special on VH-1 Soul. It almost makes up for us missing Prince jamming with Stereofox. I said almost.

The Emperor of funk Prince will have 3 hour blocks of videos including “Sexuality”, “Controversy”, “Raspberry Beret” (w/a young Pat Smear of Nirvana fame backing him up in white and long hair), “Girls & Boys”, “Mountains”, “Alphabet St.”, “I Wish U Heaven”, “Glam Slam”, “Partyman”, “Scandalous”, “The Morning Papaers”, “Gold”, “The Most Beautiful Girl….”, “Somebody’s Somebody”, “The Holy River”, “My Name Is Prince”, “The Greatest Romance Ever Sold”, “U Make My Sun Shine”, “Musicology” and “Black Sweat”. Sometime later will be live versions “I Would Die 4 U”, “Alphabet St.”, and “America” along with more later this weekend.

If that is not enough, you will then have a 3 hour block of Prince Proteges, while some are associated with Prince, they did not eaxactly use videos for songs he helped out with. Nevertheless, you will get jams by Vanity 6, Sheena Easton, a three pack of Wendy & Lisa videos, Carmen Electra, Taja Sevelle, Jill Jones, a 6 pack of videos by Sheila E., 4 videos by The Time including “Ice Cream Castles” & “jerk Out”, Morris Day, Jesse Johnson, Chaka Khan, The Family, Rosie Gaines, and many more.

There will also be a Prince pop up video special, multiple airings of “The Prince of Paisley Park” and his Acadamy Award winning film, “Purple Rain”.

The special will be airing all weekend so if you miss it once, you will catch it again. Now, the Dr. knows the most creative man in music has enough videos of himself & his royal court to fill 77 hours without showing the same video twice.

Now, if it was up to us, Dr. Funkenberry would be your video DJ with no face making that happen and maybe perhaps playing some videos that have never seen the light of day on that special. Sound good to you? It sure sounds good to us. You may not be able to give the people what they want, but we sure would like to give them what they need. Can YOU hear me? Good. Enjoy the 77 hours of funk.-Dr.FB

It's been fun watching this. I was in MPLS during his bday weekend so I missed this as the hotel did not have VH1 Soul. I taped for six hours straight today. I left and came back to the block of Jesse Johnson videos. This is a great celebration, but does anyone find it weird that they are playing it during MJ's b-day weekend? I thought they would have played MJ videos this weekend. I'm not complaining though. biggrin

Yeah, that sucks cause I don´t have even VH1 classic.

Vanity "Under the Influence" what a great song it reminds me of Jody Watley's "Still a Thrill". Prince sure did go out with some pretty women even though the all look alike.

I was in Pennsylvania yesterday until about 11:00am, and watched the videos around 8am in the morning. Interesting to see videos of songs I've never seen before. We don't have VH1 in the New York area (Queens), so I took advantage and enjoyed watching it in PA yesterday. I wish they would bring VH1 soul back to that area. Now the only time I get to see Prince videos is on the BET Jazz cable station sometimes.

I totally got my fix over the weekend by tuning into that. And I checked into EVEYRTHING... except for Prince of Paisley Park, which I'd seen recently.

I decided to check it out after hearing about it... it was about 6pm. I caught the beginning of "Ice cream castles" and got into a block of videos by The Time.
Ahem... so I think I need to check into a couple of their albums.... I saw Morris in that video and I almost flat-lined giggle

I had to check into all of Princes videos of course... I got to see some I'd never seen before. Namely the ones from Emancipation. I knew he had one for "Betta by Golly Wow" and "The Holy River"... but "Somebody's Somebody" also? That's probably my favorite song on Disc I and the video was just beautiful. All of the videos were. He looked so happy and at peace with himself.

I also got to check into some videos by Sheila E, Vanity 6 and so on. Ones I'd never have seen otherwise.

Yeah "under the influence" caught my eye too, sounded decent, especially coming from her. But it makes me a little sad though or guilty rather that I do like the song and feel that it was one of her stronger ones...because while she was recording that...SHE REALLY WAS UNDER THE INFLUENCE!!! And now I hear she had to dialysis a few times a day because of her damaged kidneys resulting in her excessive drug use. Sad.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I'd seen "Somebody's Somebody" in 1997 on VH-1. But I'd never seen the "Beautiful Loved And Blessed" video before or the "Fury" video or the Vanity 6 video "He's So Dull."
Goodnight, sweet Prince.

It was great!!! I turned on the t.v. just before going to bed like I sometimes do, and was checking out all the channels to see what was on, and saw Prince on VH1S. I really liked seeing the "America" video I love the song, and have not heard the song or seen the videos in years, this is one of my favorites.
