Basically I think the song is about a role model...and pretty is as pretty does...sometimes money can buy you troubles and addictions that you suppress until you confess. That's my guess. cool

You're askin' people to take the time to do this? Especially today's music listeners? that's a bit too much to hope for.

'pocket full of horses, Trojan and some of them used..'

Contraceptives anyone?

still not clear on Starfish and Coffee though...always thought I was out of the loop on the meaning of this...isn't some of it just a play on words? like a kids rhyme or something?

Prince has a great wit and some of his lyrics make you put on your thinking cap.

To this day I haven't figured some of them out.

4 the most part i do but it's always nice when maybe years later, a lyric or a line of a song makes even more sense.

i didn't realize in the song paisley park that "whoever said that elephants were stronger than mules " was about republicans and democrats until he said that during the xenophobia celebrations

but that the beauty of his songwritten skills like those from back in the day that had 2 create metaphors in order 2 get their point across. now a daze these non skillfull writers just say everything out in the open not making one think..

tho common's i used 2 love h.e.r. was one of the best lyric twist songs out there
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Gee, I haven't really tried to understand his lyrics, nor have I felt a need to. I figure that Prince knows what he's talking about, there's no need for me to try and decipher what's in his head. Prince is brilliant and he grooves, that's all I need to know.
