Around the World in a Day appreciation

I think THIS album is prince's most creative and diverse and catchy, all rolled into one. I think it's his best album, and his voice is really the instrument driving the rest of the music if that makes any sense. The lyrics are brilliant too.

I love the bluesy beats in Paisley Park and Temptation (crazy guitar!!!)

Around the World in a Day is like a prerequisite to Theives in the Temple IMO but much better

The beats of America and Tamborine are just so funky

Condition of the Heart has pianos that are so pure, and I know that sounds stupid but it just hits home

I was about to ask you where I could hear it, but then remembered this is my favourite asshole we're talking about and it won't be online LOL

I kind of agree with Prince on banning his stuff online so it doesn't get overexposed and sampled and all that, but it's frustrating not being able to check out his work before going out to buy it.

i can respect him not wanting his stuff online by outside parties if he offered it 2 his fans y have all that good juicy stuff that we long 4 if he gonna keep it locked up in a vault prince should have his own website offering all his filmed rehearsals, videos, songs and movies everything he has done all these projects we have heard about let it cum 2 the light now cuz i really wanna experience it all cuz i have heard soo many unreleased or alternate versions that kick ass 2 alot of released stuff
i really wanna the rebels stuff, the second coming movie, all the songs everything prince could do a site like youtube and call it princetube and charge a 31.21 membership and i would gladly join

Are you talking about ATWIAD the song? I think it started as a David Coleman (Lisa's brother) song and already had all the mideastern elements before Prince decided to put his stamp on it. I think the story is Prince gave David Coleman studio time for his birthday. In the stuido, Coleman came up with the music for ATWIAD and Prince was blown away with all the cool middle eastern sounds and developed a song around it.

But I agree, the original version was better than the one on the album...but both are pretty friggin cool imo. This is one of my fave albums too...the whole thing is great except for the end of Temptation...he goes a little overboard on that one...

This and Controversy are the most underrated albums of his 80s run. I love this album, and my favorite song on it, Temptation, is the one everybody cant stand.
chill..prince doesnt like men being front row, makes it hard to sing the ballads

My second fave Prince album after Parade.

"his voice is really the instrument driving the rest of the music if that makes any sense" alphastreet Yes that makes sense, it really does drive the album.

I was just listening to a remastered version of this, which brings up an interesting legal question. I own the CD and even still have my original LP of Around the World in a Day. Now if I download someone's remastered version of this album for free, am I violating any laws? I can't see how since I've paid for this music legally twice now (including all 12 inch singles).

Ok, back to the album...Temptation just rocks. I've loved that song since the day the album dropped.

NightGod...I am not a lawyer. although I would believe that you are in violation. What you have stated seems to be a standard objection, to facing something that is still illegal.
The main thing that I see...Is that if a domain name is registered and is generating income through it's internet travel...The money that your destination is devoted to in the process of downloading material that is not a Prince owned domain, is a financial record of a disrespectful attempt at owning something free....even if you change your mind...The person that is hosting the download is still making money from the advertisement of the product, whether or not you actually download the music when you get there.

I think it was cool that he took such a radical turn after Purple Rain to sort the casual fans from the true Prince Fans. It still sounds so totally Prince-y, but it has that little tinge of Mid-East sound to it and I love it. I just listened to it earlier today actually. I love the dance break in the title track (Say, Papa! Think I Wanna Dance!)

I remember hearing some rumors related to ATWIAD:

Is it true that he made ATWIAD as to intentionally lose the "come-lately" fans who bought PR and thought it was his 1st album?.....and that WB expecting something more commercial (basically a "PR pt. 2")?

Love this album! Every single song! biggrin

And I'm listening to the original demo of 'Around the World in a Day'for the first time now and I agree with you kaptainkrunk wink It's funky, and still has some of the Middle Eastern sounds in it too cool

But I think I understand why he chose to change it, he was aiming to challenge people with this album... and a challenge it was lol
