I do believe that "The Dawn," is that light of understanding, that puts us all in a place where we rely, depend on, and support eachother...No matter where you were born...The World raises the World. We are all Teachers and Students. cool

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I'm curious as to his timing for when he switched from wishing us to see The Dawn to welcoming us to it. Did he -or we -attain some enlightenment around that time? Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't he make the switch sometime around Emancipation?

As I recall, it was with the release of TMBGITW. I think he put Welcome to the Dawn on the extended butterfly single. I think he also combined it with his first website, like the Dawn became the end of his time with WB and the new virtual world that was becoming more widely available. That's just my recollection; I could be wrong.

Well, in the beginning , when he was still saying "May U live 2 C the Dawn", I believed he was talking about the tribulation or something of an Abrahamic Jewish/Christian sort.

But after changing his name to the career ending symbol and posting "Welcome 2 The Dawn" I became aware that he's just trying to sound interesting, and laugh to himself as some of you new power buttpuppets drink purple Koolaide from his unending fountain of self-agrandizing propoganda.

My answer is complicated really.

Maybe. I'm not sure if the WB connection is significant or not though. Unless, as he suggests in Dinner With Dolores, the rift with the label really did go back as far as '84, or sooner.

The lyrix:

When the things U know are right are far from what they seem
When the past becomes future and time becomes a dream
When the light of God is the only thing in life that will redeem

Welcome, welcome 2 the dawn
Welcome 2 the dawn
Well, yeah?ha!

When the voice U hear commands U 2 entertain the absurd
And when U do the action unlocks the apocalypse, oh, that U've heard of
When the day lies before U seems the darkest in a word

Welcome, welcome 2 the dawn (Oh yes)
Welcome 2 the dawn

Every piece a puzzle and every name a clue (K A R M A {x4})
Every choice U make is karma so be careful what U do

(Welcome)
Welcome, welcome 2 the dawn
Welcome 2 the dawn

Thank U

I meant being free from WB, which tied into all of his "Get free" statements in various songs and segues. It just seemed that he viewed his new record-label-less status as a dawning and he tied that into the dawn that he had been talking about before. At least that's how it seemed to me.

Could be. I was always under the impression that the overall message was more planned than that. So if it has anything to do with his newfound freedom from the label, then there really must have been issues with WB back around Purple Rain or before, since that's when he started wishing we could see The Dawn.

Yes, I do think the overall message of "the dawn" as a Prince concept seems more planned and didn't at first seem to have anything to do with WB. But earlier in the thread you asked when he switched from saying "May U live 2 see the Dawn" to "Welcome 2 the Dawn." I'm saying that I think he took his already preexisting concept of the dawn and added a secondary element that corresponded to getting away from WB.

That could be it. The Dawn beign a reference to a spiritual awakening, it wouldn't be hard to stretch it to correlate spiritual awakening with this new freedom.

"The Dawn", "The Truth", "The Work"....it's just a bunch of mumbo jumbo Prince throws around to sound more interesting. There isn't anything that he says that go much deeper than Republican party style talking points on the Fox News Network. lol

Prince is first and foremost a crafty musician. As a philosopher, I don't think Spinoza is gonna rise up from the dead with envy lol.

But reality is subjective. Heisenberg showed that (apparantly) that you can change something just by observing it.
