Contempt or Joy with Repetition?

I guess it depends on the act. Working down a coal mine for your whole life would no doubt breed contempt. 13 years of marriage and I still can't get enough of her. That's joy.

But is Prince singing that with repetition comes joy? Or is it purely that repeating something you enjoy brings about the same?

It's how he repeats sung elements of the song to emphasise the title. Simple yet effective. I could state that musical elements within the song are also repeated but, hell, where would rock be without that? wink

I suppose I could go read the lyrics to see what he's getting at but I haven't done that in years!

"...holding someone is truly believing there's joy in repetition."

Oh, he's singing about the love for another. Well when you truly love someone then holding them will always bring about joy no matter how long or how many times it's done.

I think that he's stating the obvious somewhat. I feel a little sorrow for him in many ways as his relationships don't seem to last. I know there are many out there for whom this is also the case. Perhaps that's part of the reason why he's turned to a god. With something missing in his life he looks elsewhere to fill the void. Perhaps.

Nearly 18 years I have spent with my wife. And each and every time I look down at her as we make love it feels more beautiful and she becomes more special. I've chosen not to believe that there has to be a god, but on the off chance that one may exist that created us I'd like to say thankyou. Thankyou for giving me all I ever really needed. And a little of what I wanted wink

Where did I say the song was titled Joy 'With' Repetition? I was merely pondering why he chose to sing about joy coming from repetition when it is usually said that repetition breeds contempt.

But thankyou for putting me in my place. And for making a point of what an idiot you are.

I like post's like this...that offer an emotion that comes from the individual that is listening...What you posted about your wife is sweet as can be...

Writer's have realized, and Preacher's that even if their message was trying to get a specific message through to another person...Some people pick up on something all together different that touches them...That is the beautiful thing about art...

I remember the story about one of Thomas Kincade's paintings...where a woman was about to take her own life...and a Love through a painting, prevented her doing it that day, and this woman used that example in a testimony for other people that were suffering from depression...
To many people...the painting is just a pretty picture. cool

Don't be fooled. It's not all sweet romantic lurve. Nope, it's at its best when it's as pervy as hell and down right filthy. Woohoo! I always say that making love ain't making love unless there's a little shame on both sides and two roles of gaffer tape and three tubs of chip fat on the ceiling to explain.
