Isn't the music of the Parade era something special?

It's an album at one time I didn't want and now it's one of those albums that is one of the few I find the hardest to put down.

I'm not just talking about the the album tracks. Even the B-sides are addictive.

There's something about the whole vibe that makes me want to say its my favorite album, but seeing as I change my mind so much, it's not set in stone. All I know is that when I first got it and started listening to it, it'd been one of my favorite albums ever since.

People typically ID Prince's sound with the other titans of the 80's, 1999 & Purple Rain. Parade might not have that typical 80's sound, but I ask you this: who other than Prince could do an album like Parade and pull it off THIS well?

cool
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

very true, timeless sound, i think it sounds more contemporary now than it did then.

I've never heard anything like Parade before or since. Maybe his greatest work.. no.. that's daft.. ranking some of them 80's albums above one another is pointless. However, Parade fucking rocks.

The best songs on PARADE (Kiss, Girls & Boys, Anotherloverholeinyohead) are wonderful but the album has some low points too (Christopher Tracy's Parade, Do U Lie? and Under The Cherry Moon [boring ballad]). But its definitely an interesting and bold album. I respect Prince for making it but it doesn't touch Dirty Mind,1999,Purple Rain,or SOTT imo.
the music knows what your motives are when you are making it

listen to The Replacements - its good for the soul

as the parade tour was the first i got 2 see live, it will always b a special era/album 4 me. can i suggest that the influence of wendy and lisa should not b understated. even as a spur or incentive 4 P 2 'come up with the goods' or a sounding board, or 'quality control' as some people put it.
even tracks like 'alexa de paris' or 'love or money' sparkle like diamonds'. plus of course P looked 'bitchin' in '86 !

Yes! I will always think that the Parade/UTCM era was his best. He was at his most energetic and vibrant period, not to speak of his most handsome. He looks almost exactly as he does now!! biggrin

I kinda see how the general public might think that about those particular songs, but if you listen to alternative or collage radio, you hear how those songs would fit right in todays music scene.
