Vinyl lovers alert! Purple Rain coming on 180 gram Vinyl

I just saw here that Warner Bros and Rhino are releasing a few select titles from their catalog on 180 gram vinyl, mastered by audiophile mastering engineer Kevin Gray from the original analog master tapes. And one of the titles is Purple Rain and it will be released on September 9th in the US.
Based on the stuff I've seen on the audiophile websites about Kevin's mastering work, I think this is going to be a good release for those of us who want a fresh copy of the album on vinyl.
Here are some pre-order links for y'all:
http://store.acousticsoun...e_ID=11256
http://www.elusivedisc.co...=WBLP99149
http://www.amazon.com/Pur...24&sr=1-11

P.S. There are no bonus tracks if y'all are wondering. These kind of vinyl reissues rarely feature (if ever) bonus tracks. For the hardcore collectors out there it does however come in a gatefold jacket.

Did Prince want Purple Rain remastered? Did he have any say on the matter?

Or is Warner Bros still in control of everything?

Did Rhino get Prince's approval to remaster and release Purple Rain on vinyl?

Just asking.

I would rather purchase a Prince approved release.

Great news. Hopefully the mastering will be great. Purple Rain is one of those albums that just sounds better on vinyl. And gatefold, cool!, my original is just single sleeve. Another copy for the collection!

I've already had the vinyl since the week of it's release in 1984.

Features all original packaging

I wonder if this means it will come with the poster that the one I had did?

Me, too. (I think I bought mine the first day, in fact.)

Doesn't mean I won't buy this one, though.

I bought all my Prince albums the first day of their release after I graduated high school. While I was in high school, my grandmother gave me money to go to the record store and buy something. I stayed with her every weekend. Albums were always released on a Tuesday so that meant I had to wait until Friday when I went to her house. I wish I gotten that one on the first day though because I heard those particular albums were on purple vinyl. Mine is on the normal black vinyl.

The purple vinyl must've only been in select markets. They never had it (to my knowledge) where I lived.

Probably so because I've never met anyone in my area that has one, nor have I seen one. However, I do have the "Purple Rain" 45 on purple vinyl. I bought that one as soon as a found out it was released as a single. I wasn't expecting purple vinyl but it was a nice surprise.

And I don't know what the deal is with the poster in the "1999" album either. I bought that album the Friday after it's release also and mine had no poster. Months later, I started seeing people that said they had a poster in their album.

They're heavier - so they have more of a vintage feel and look to them.

That's funny. In 2008, they want to preserve the vintage feel of a vinyl album in 1984 by making it heavier than it originally was. They must be going after the vintage feel of the old 78s.....now those were heavy. lol
