A year since the 'Grupo Fantasma' aftershow

Well this time last year I would have been waiting in line to get into the Indigo2! cool

Didn't really know whether to expect Prince to perform or not but about 40 minutes into Grupo Fantasma's set my brother noticed that the stage hands had plugged his Hohner in and moments later there he was. Immediately up went the phone cameras. He didn't look happy and motioned to the wings as if to say 'I'll go!'

Fortunately after some interventions from security the phones stayed in peoples pockets and Prince played a very cool set starting with a ferocious instrumental version of 'I Like It There' and we got the longest, funkiest 'Stratus' of the entire run (which has inspired me to play that tune with my quartet)

Show your love if you were there. And if the Geordie guy we met in the queue is reading I hope you enjoyed your birthday present and that the queuing was worth it!

This was my first night at the O2. Never thought I would see him on the drums. Absolutely amazing night.

i rave about grupo's set ..they r some bad mofo's!!!
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

They opened for him on 7 August main show, and did the last encore with him too, they were great!

Gave the bootleg of this a spin tonight while doing some ironing. It's not the best aftershow of the run by a long chalk obviously that mantal is taken by the power trio gig. worship

However the latin funk leanings of Grupo seem to give this show a different personality. The aftershows last summer developed and got better throughout the run. I view this show as the best 'early' aftershow. If you know what I mean?
