yes of course prince is the king of funk. prince is just his name not a title lol. if you listen to his earlier material and a lot of his later catalogue too he is the funkiest man on earth no kidding. on my birthday some friends of mine were listening to the hits and b-sides and we were all nodding saying 'this is as funky as it gets and always will be'. maybe you just need to have the ears to hear it. funk is in the soul of the listener as much as it is in the music, imo. i've never heard anyone play guitar funky as that or compose and arrange beats the way he does, so intricate yet simple and always in the right spots.

The title "King of Funk", besides sounding too close to the self-imposed (and irritating) "King of Pop" is a bit limiting don't you think?
I love Prince's funk tracks, but his skills and talents in songwriting are of a larger scope. I guess I should answer the question though. As of today, yes. JB and RJ are both gone. GC is still turning out jams, but if it came down to a throwdown, Prince wins. Here's a thought...imagine Prince in a funk battle with no band, only his guitar...he'd win. I think he could even win playing piano. My question is, who can challenge him right now? | |
