Planet Earth on vinyl

Hi, there. Apart from the unofficial awful sound quality double vinyl edition of 'Planet Earth', does another edition of the album exist on vinyl?

For instance, does a picture vinyl exist?

Thanks for the help!

Much LOVE.

Well many big artists like Radiohead, Madonna and Amy Winehouse have their latest records out on vinyl, plus while CD sales have gone down, vinyl sales are actually increasing. So why buy vinyl in 2008? A new album, when done properly, can sound better on vinyl than on CD, especially if the CD is a "victim" of the loudness wars. While some CDs are being maximised to death and even distorted, it's not possible to abuse the sound quite like that on an LP because the format can only hold so much loudness before the stylus jumps off the groove. One example of a vinyl record sounding better IMO than the same CD is Stadium Arcadium by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Plus for people who like album covers and artwork inside the album, vinyl is the way to go since everything is bigger. If you look at the album cover of SOTT on vinyl you will notice things you would never see looking at the tiny CD booklet for the same album.
And if Prince recorded Planet Earth in analog, a vinyl version can easily sound better, it may not have the same clarity but instead it would probably have a warmer and more lifelike sound. If it's recorded in digital it can still possibly sound better on vinyl because most people record at a higher samplerate and bitrate than a regular CD can reproduce.

i understand your point but when did prince last relaese on vinyl? how many people own decks these days?

I think vinyl sounds richer purely because of its limitations like old films look more colourful beacuse they were limited too. its nostalgia you like not the sound quality.

The original question is about a bootleg anyhows, why would anyone want a vinyl bootleg? i can understand it years ago but not now.

an interesting thought though would be how his 'fake' vinyl scratchiness on certain songs on planet earth would sound on real live vinyl - terrible probably, so i doubt if it would ever be released on vinyl.

vinyl is dying and rightly so, some bands may choose to release on vinyl to create a 'spin' on an album, just another way to sell more to the same people. The truth is the way forward is digital not cds tape or vinyl, its natural progression in technology.

Vinyl has been on the upswing for many, many years now. 3121 was on vinyl too.

A lot of artists are doing this recently, it seems. I bought the B-52s' recent release - which was a 180-gram vinyl, with a bonus CD.

This is a great way to go, I think. Gives folks who might shy away from vinyl an incentive to go that route, saving them the trouble of ripping the vinyl. cool

I'm not only sure. I just know. I have it. But I thought it was official, while instead it's an unofficial edition. That's why I want to know if there is an official edition of the vinyl for 'Planet Earth'. Better if it's a picture disc.

Princes last Vinyl Offering might have been Musicology. I know I saw one int he store and they don't carry Boots. Now if it HAD been a full picture sleeve, I might have picked it up. The last official vinyl with full pic sleeve was/is Rainbow Children which is hard to find now.

Many people have decks that I know of. If fact Vinyl is on the comeback. You even have turntables that connect with a USB cable to your computer. So obviously there is a need/want out there. It's why Wreka Stows are still around. Now the only question that remains is if the music was mixed for vinyl. If it wasn't and the arist is simply putting it out on vinyl when it was mixed for CD it's going to sound crappy.

There was no official vinyl release of 'Musicology'. 'Rainbow Children' is his last official vinyl release, and it is indeed quite rare. There is an official vinyl release of 'Rave', which shouldn't be that hard to find.

I am getting that too. Glad to hear it comes with the CD too.

Portisheads 3 album is also out as a vinyl and you can download the album free too. The Limited edition comes with a USB stick of the album plus short films.

Looks nice ! And I like the fact that it comes with a CD, just in case.
Was it much more expensive than a CD album ?
