Prince Rogers Nelson is one of the most important living musicians. Regularly referred to as a genius since almost the very beginning of his recording career, his ten year run of hit albums during the eighties was unmatched by anyone else releasing records during that decade. This book, which will be timed to coincide with Prince's 50th birthday in 2008, will take a hard look at the life and work of a musical genius, concerntrating on oral testimony from those have worked with Prince, or thought hard about his thirty-year career. Also, I came across an article where Matt Thorne lists his all-time top five songs. Number 1 was 'Wasted Kisses,' - Prince "The darkest, most disturbing song released by a major artist."

what the song? it's just a mellow r&b track with some shiny keys. Personally i love the track but it's not disturbing nor is it dark.

There's definately some melancholy undertones, but to called 'Wasted Kisses'



is ridiculous and pretty funny.

It's not even the darkest and most disturbing Prince song.

No it's not. I heard a song from Prince that was so Dark it scared me. I later heard he tried to stop it's release.

'Dance With The Devil' is incredibly dark. It was intended for the Batman soundtrack but was ultimately replaced by 'Batdance'.

Another disturbing and dark unreleased Prince track is 'Others Here With Us'. That shit's hella creepy.

Well it does have some hospital monitor equipment beeping away and then flatlining, so i guess it depends on who it is you think he's singing about, that possibly makes it dark.

Well, until he puts out an autobiography, can you blame them? Some people find the guy interesting enough to look at in book form. Or at least they used to.

I dont think Sinead O Connor will have many nice things to say about him

It's more the lyrics, and some of the effects, that can be decribed as dark.

The fact it's about a man who knows his wife cheated on him (be that Prince or some fictional character), is obviously angry about it, and the ambulance noises at the end, it could be argued to have dark undertones. Almost like a Robert Browning dramatic monologue.

Sent an email to Faber yesterday asking for any info on the book and, here was their reply.

"I'm afraid it's early days - the book won't be published until January 2010 - but I believe the book will be a series of interviews and essays with people about Prince. So no contact with Prince himself, and not really a biography. More of a critical appreciation."

I'm losing interest by the day.
