so i was just wondering how other people feel about you listening to the purple knight? your friends sound ignorant and lame, my friends think I need to be on medication ;] "ask yourself what's more important: him, or the broken pieces of your heart."

My friends like Prince even if they aren't familiar with most of his work...I say goodbye to the people that don't like Prince.

And a miracle is you're only option, Believe.~T

My friends think I'm strange - there's only one that has a couple of his albums. My 'best mate' loves to rib me about him but there's some kind of karmic thing going on because every time she does this some Prince track or other will pop up to haunt her within a few hours of her comments! Dammit! I appear to have inadvertantly put on my invisibilty suit...

yup, and then whatever you were saying goes kinda lame and trails off into the 'im not really listening to you but ill nod sympathetically ether" everyone who knows me thinks im unusual shall we say, but i was born that way; its not Princes fault its just that his music is only for the sexy people and those who walk in crooked shoes, we dont want their ole time music and their old ideas, we just wanna have fun in the sunshine and never get older! I say screw your 'friends' who dont like your taste in music - at my party thats all they're gonna hear! dont bother knockin on my door an all that jazz. you can be what ever you want to be

That's because Bowie is cool because he sings about non-sentimental crap that blokes can relate to and feel comfortable with. Versus Prince he sings about sex, shagging, women, sex, women, shagging, falling in love, not feeling good enough, believing in God, not believing in God, maybe I'm gay, maybe I'm straight, maybe I'm... blah, blah,blah... Prince lets it all hang out and most people aren't comfortable with that..

Prince lets it all hang out and most people aren't comfortable with that.. i can't agree with that. bowie's ziggy-era lyrics were extremely explicit (especially for the time) and not just possibly-gay but downright QUEER AS A CATFART. i mean, "sweet head"? what more do you need, a diagram? and i don't think bowie is characterized by "comfortable" lyrics...well, maybe during the 80s, but let's not dwell on such nastiness. albums like "low", "heroes", "hours" and "heathen" are all about discomfort and stress and pressure. even his older stuff, while it might have had an escapist element, was usually about some kind of dystopian future where everything has gone horribly wrong. if i find comfort in bowie's music, it's because he taps into the kinds of things i worry about, and it makes me feel less that's not to take anything away from what prince has done. i'm just sayin' it's probably why i love them both equally.

I do know what you mean - and I agree with you - I think people have a naivety to Prince. When I was at Coachella recently (brag, brag) a lot of people were knocking him but I realised they just had never listened to him properly. Bowie has never been classed as 'pop' like Prince has. People mention Prince and in the same breath they mention 'Madonna and Michael Jackson' - so the only thing I conclude is that they just don't really get the Prince thing at all.

so i was just wondering how other people feel about you listening to the purple knight? None of my friends like his music as much as I do, and I don't like any of their music really [what's on the radio] This is a bit off topic, but this past weekend, I went to prom, and I didn't know any of the music! The DJ played a couple of old school rap tracks, and then he played Thriller. I think Thriller was the only song that I knew all of the words to "There's three ways that love can grow: that's good, bad, or mediocre! Oh J-A-N-E-T, I LOVE YOU SO!"

My friends don´t understand my passion for Prince and his music, but still they end up agreeing with me, when I ask them to listen to a song or some lyrics. Then they´ll be like "OK that one song is good, but I don´t know any of his later work" (that means after the 80´ies). Freedom´s just another word for nothing left to loose --Janis Joplin
