well, if the prince was in a playboy then 4 sure he stole it from them lol

the first time eye saw an easier form of the prince is on the 1999 record ... in the "P" r both symbols for male and female and in the first 9 they melt together ... well, of course it was not his complete idea ... but eye like the prince

That's crazy...You can't steal something GOD inspires you 2 have.

What about all of the people that have duplicate names? Did the last John steal from the first John? Or did the last Suzie Q take from the first Suzie Q? cool

No, he didn't.

If there was any "stealing" going on, it was by Pickett

Dude.
You HONESTLY think that NO ONE had combined the male and female symbols before Prince? you have GOT to be kidding.

It was adding the trumpet symbol to the male and female symbol that made it unique.

He stylized something that already was invented. That doesn't mean he invented it.

Ummmm...did you actually read that? It says Pickett didn't have a legal leg to stand on.

I don't know how you get that Prince stole the symbol from what you linked. confuse

Never said he invented it. But by putting in a third non related icon into the symbol, he made it copyrightable. It is unique to Prince. That's the way it works with all logo's/logotype's etc.

oh for goodness sake!!!!

Prince didnt steal the symbol, the symbol is his (or least he owns its) creation.

The aformentioned male female symbols had previously been melded together and prince used this idea on 1999 cover and had a necklace made like that in the early 90s however the new npg symbol evolved to include the shape of the horns so became a mix of female/male into drum, guitar, horn.

If you read the whole thing Pickett made a guitar in the likeness of the already widely used Prince symbol and showed it to prince. Exactly how and wear or indeed why is not disclosed. Prince then later had a guitar made for him similar to Pickets in that it was in the shape of his already owned symbol.

You cant make a gucci symbol earing and then sue gucci for making one like it. They already own the symbol.

I can only assume Pickett made the guitar to perhaps sell to prince but maybe prince had a preferred guitar maker and thought hey fab idea why didnt i think of that!! Pickett then got the arse and sued prince for copyright infringement which didnt exist.

So no Prince didnt steal the symbol he merely made a randomly used and often different symbol about sexuality a 'thing' to be worn and live by as a name by changing it to represent his music and himself.

Anyone else could have done it but they didnt! so Prince owns it. Its his.

By the way thread name very misleading with regard to actual content of link.

Exactly.

If you ever wondered why Prince (and other artists) refuses unsolicited musical works, poetry or sketches (of musical instruments or whatever), now you know. It just opens up a big can of worms.

Actually it's the alchemists symbol for soapstone... so no Prince did not create the symbol.
