what are your thoughts on "Parade"?

In a lot of ways, it's my all-time favorite Prince record. I absolutely adore it. It's got everything - from ultra danceable catchiness like "Christopher Tracy's Parade" and (obviously) "Kiss" --- to gorgeous tear-jerkers like "Under The Cherry Moon" and "Sometimes It Snows In April" ..... at times weird and dissonant, yet universally glorious and whimsical. I can't get enough of this album. So I ask you all - why didn't it do too well in the States? How could anybody not love "Parade"?

It's an amazing album.

I saw the movie b4 I got the album, actually. And the music didn't really make its impact on me until they played the song "Anotherloverholenyohead"... I knew the moment I heard it that I'd love it. And it's since my favorite on the album... except maybe for "Mountains." wink

I feel like (except for one or 2 tracks) this album is one that guarantees you'll be taken out of w/e bad mood you're in and you're having a good time dancing jig

Girls & Boys
Christopher Tracy's Parade
Life can be so nice
Kiss
Anotherloverholenyohead

and "Mountains" is a tune that doesn't come around very much. cloud9 gurantees you'll leave smiling, especially if you get a hold of the long version of it dancing jig

The choregraphy in the videos for "Kiss" and "Mountains" is just love
...just watching him move.
had 2 run away... pride was 2 strong. It started raining, baby, the birds were gone

i guess that back in 1986 people were kind of waiting for something else.
sure, parade is "something else" but perhaps too much so for the casual
listener.

it's probably my fav prince album too nod

I think Parade showcases every aspect of what Prince's talent is capable of, in fewer tracks than Sign O The Times.

It also takes me away from Earth. cloud9

I love everything Prince has...but "Parade" is not my favorite cd...I guess it was the movie...I liked the movie...but, it kind of upset me.

I am not crazy about gigolo's...I like faithful men.

It beat Sign Of The Times to the punch for showing how brilliant Prince can be.

I mentioned this before, but i just recently put this on, and it sounds expensive!
like some luxurious thing that you don't want your kids to get their sticky hands on! lol

audio-luxurious, awesome i love it.

compared to what we've been getting lately, excellent!

It's high-end Prince music!

LOVE it!!!! It was my first Prince album so it has a special place in my heart. Plus its the one Prince album that I can play from start to finish everytime I play it. This is an album that ALWAYS puts a smile on my face, even with Sometimes It Snow In April. Parade is my album.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I love it, but mostly out of nostalgia. I never get tired of it...I can turn it on at any time and play every track straight through to the end. Venus de Milo is my favorite.

Also "Alexa De Paris" (the "Mountains" b-side, and piece of music from the actual movie Under The Cherry Moon) is nice.
