Good Love Appreciation Thread

Lawd do I love this song.

I first heard it on KIX 106 in Birmingham , Alabama way back in the day when the movie Bright Lights Big City came out. The DJs at that station were very Prince friendly, often play selected tracks that were either b-sides or not official singles in addition to the singles that they played.

I immediately took to the song.

Let's face it--If any other artist tried to pull the "Camille" voice off, it would just end up sounding like raper Eminem after being kicked in the balls a few times. But Prince managed to make it sound like a the transgender teenage lesbian that Camille probably was meant to be.

Camille oozed sexuality, bravado, and playfulness in a tiny pint sized gender bending package!

It sounded like nothing on the radio, other than that awful song by Rythim Syndicate (I think it was titled "Just can't get enough") which was a blatant Prince rippoff.

Theres something so sweet and charming about GoodLove--that I can't quite put my finger on.

I especially love the part :

U and I in each others arms (U and I - each others arms)
Here is another world (Here I'm protected)
Here I'm protected from all harm
Only the naked, boy and girl

THe "All Harm" part is so adorable and .... strangely erotic. To me it's iconic of Camille, the same way the "Hey-eh-yee-eh-eheheeheheheehe-hey part of 'Another One Bites the Dust' by Freddie Mercury is iconic Queen".

Prince nails so many elements right in this song that I sometimes get this throbbng erection just thinking about it.

It reminds me of the times when I was a young boy of 12 years old when I used to sneak down to my fathers basement and stroke my member while playing the Purple Rain soundtrack. jerkoff jerkoff jerkoff

But that's the beauty of Prince--at least the 'Camille' part of the Prince, isn't it? Sex *IS* spiritual. Through Sex and a loving relationship you CAN be protected from all harm.
Though the storm may come.
And the thicketed forest before you creeks and crags with danger.
Hold tight to the one you love.
And you'll be protected from all harm.
And possibly have a good deal of Anal Stimulation while you're at it.!

I. Love. This. Song!

GIve it up for Good Love!

Totally agree!!!!

I have loved it since first listen.

Instantly likeable and never tiresome. Prince at his most poppiest!

Instantly happy feelgood. smiley face, skipping down the road song from the first Good Love!

Love the change in pace for.....

4th of July in every stroke
A symphony of light and sound
Oh, I want 2 die from all the smoke
Fire breaks out when U're around

And the bit spoken towards the end....

Yeah
Gustav Mahler #3 jamming on the box
U wanna rock? (Why not?)

Altogether now....Whooooaaaah yeah! Good Love!!!!!

I love this song. When I hear songs like this and Raspberry Beret, I get jealous and pissed that I could never craft such a good pop song.
Maybe we can go to the movies and cry together

Yup. Inventive.

It took the best of bubblegum pop, old wave 80s, and othe elements and created something completely new and fresh.

With the right marketing this could have been one of his big singles. Such a gem.
