Unfortunately, I think Prince stole "Head" from another song, too

We've been talking about one or two Prince songs that sound like some previous songs from other artists.

I just heard a song on XM Radio, from the 70's that sounds very similar to "Head" which Prince put out in 1980.

The bass guitar 3 pluck sequence, in "Head", seems like it was directly stolen from this song. The music from this 70's song seems like it was modified by Prince for "Head".

It sucks, I know.

I think the XM station is XM 64. They play a lot of music from the 1970's and 1980's.

If I had a nickel for every song that had a bit here or there that sounded similar to something that came before it, or for every time I heard an artist pay tribute to -or blatantly rip off -another artist, or for every time a new artist or band is inspired to do what they do because of who came before, I'd be the richest woman on the planet.

The larger my music collection gets, the more I notice "sound-alike" music . . . and not just by Prince. By everyone.

As great as it is, there's only so much you can do with music. Some songs are unidentifiable until the lyrics start . . .

THAT'S where identity comes in, IMO. Lyrics and vocals.

I have to say it again...Adam must be really upset, cuz after He got through naming all of the tree's, the insect's, and the animal's, and to top that off He had to make love to Eve every day, Father a nation...He didn't get around to developing copyright lawz...and it's been over seven thousand years of everybody ripping off his material.

Only so many notes on a scale, and so many beats to a minute: Eventually, anything has the potential to sound similar to something else.

Exactly. Everything inspires everything else.
