What role did Prince play with Madhouse?

I am listening to the "16" CD and just like the "Sheila E" CD Prince's name is conspicuously absent. However, again, my ears tell me otherwise. The songs are all credited to Madhouse for production and writing. The only players listed are Eric Leeds, Levi, Fink, and John Lewis on drums. Who is John Lewis?

I've never listened to this CD before. The only song I knew was "10" because it was the single and they use to show the video on BET back in the day. There's some funky stuff on here. I'm digging it.

As always, thanks for any help on this one.

it's basically a prince album without prince vocals. just like on all
his "real" albums he did the majority of writing and playing on it. a
small number of people like eric leeds and sheila play on the tracks.

do you also have the madhouse "8" album? they're both excellent.

Thanks. I am not surprised because the grooves and comps are very trademark Prince. No, I don't have "8" yet. I have it on the way though. I picked one up really cheap on eBay last week! I'm looking forward to hearing it because I am on my fourth repeat cycle of "16" and I REALLY like it.

this stuff needs to be re-released, badly.

i hate the way prince neglects his own legacy. he should see to
it that these albums are all remastered and re-released with an
exteded playlist including single mixes and b sides.

i would RUN to the store tomorrow for the two madhouse albums,
remastered and sounding crisp, loud and alive.

but oh well, if he can't even be bothered to remaster 1999 or
purple rain, i guess we shouldn't even think about madhouse.

Would it not be Warner Brothers job to re-master P's catalogue. They seem to be in total disaray right now.

My copy of "8" arrived yesterday and I dig it too. It's a little more mellow - other than "6," but I like it. I'm glad I grabbed these album because there's great stuff on them.
