ur task is 2 list 5 tracks from both bands which u feel r the funkiest tracks

2 make this fair: the revolution tracks CAN include outtakes ...so the years involved are from 1983-1986 (PR-dream factory)

the NPG consists of tracks from through the gold experience

Honestly I would love to respond...although, I can't help but just love the music...and I respect you for studying the parts that way...

Musicians are better at answering that kind of question....if u don't play an instrument...u don't feel, i don't feel qualified to answer.

The Revolution is it for me. The sound is just good. And the songs were better. NPG days are mostly rapping and Jazz experimentation. Family Name is good. I'm not saying NPG didn't have good songs, but I don't think I've heard a song from the Revolution days that I hated.

what about the sott/lovesexy band? p's greatest band ever, in my opinion. if you mean just on record i guess the revolution

To me the Revolution was melding all sorts of music and was very eclectic, but with NPG, it was like he find a niche and stayed in it.

what's wrong with sheila e? greatest drummer ever, imo.

Actually, Thomas 'Coke' Escovedo was born in Los Angeles and Sheila in San Francisco.
Oh and my bad, it's actually Pete who's Sheila's father and Coke is Pete's brother. They also have a third brother, Alejandro.

My favorite band Prince ever had was the Sign/Lovesexy tour band.

I'm slowly starting to appreciate The Revolution. The video for America is one of Prince's most funkiest performances of all-time.

I think that the NPG lineup he had around 93-96 was his most underrated. Everyone knows that Michael Bland is a great drummer. But the rest of that band was just incredible. There's a performance of Endorphinemachine out there that just blows me away every time I see it!!!

I think the ONA/Musicology band was musically his best band. They were able to do jazzy stuff, funky stuff, basically any genre with complete ease. The rhythm section of Rhonda Smith & John Blackwell really held that band down. I was really bummed when I found out that he wasn't working with them anymore.

Speaking of the SOTT/Lovesexy band, I just listened to some Prince music yesterday. Was a long time since I last did that.
I listened to SOTT all the way thru at work...
now that's a good Prince album!

This topic has been on here several times. Most of the folks on here who has really since P live in concert will pick the Lovesexy band. Mainly cuz that's the first P concert that u actually went to. It isn't many on here who has actually seen P live before 86. Not only because of age either. Many on here got into P as late as the 90's. And then there are those u will pick the Lovesexy band and they haven't even seen that band live. But saw some vhs tape or dvd of a gig. Point is, u truly can't comment on something that u haven't even seen in the flesh. I dug the Signs/Lovesexy band. Saw P twice on the Lovesexy tour. It was o.k. I saw P's Hit and Run tour from 86. THAT band probably was the best lineup I have ever seen with P. It's not my favorite but it's probably his best. Musicianship wise. They were super tight. And this was with Bobby on drums. Not Sheila. But my fave band lineup definately is P's Controversy/1999 lineup. I would include the Purple Rain lineup but I never dug Wendy's playing on that tour. She was at her best with P playing funk oriented material. Not rock.
