My turn... Lovesexy album.

Is it just me or does anyone feel that this whole album has an underlying sense of loss and sorrow. To me there is not one happy song on it. It's the suicidal album almost. And to finish the way it does.

It's another classic album and one that really makes a mark, but it sure is dark. It's polar album had the aggression whereas for this Prince gave thought to matters concerning him. Well that's what I think anyway.

i think the black album is dark and the lovesexy album is bright. that is why the cover is white. i think he should of just had a white cover and no nude photo. then people would have understood the album better. positivity have you had you plus sign today! biggrin

Doubts of our conviction
Follow where we go
And when the world's compassion
Ceases still I know
4 your every touch I
Thank U so much
4 your every kiss I

I wish U love
I wish U heaven
I wish U heaven

If I see 11
U can say it's 7
Still I wish U heaven

I wish U love
I wish U heaven
I wish U heaven

la la la la la, do do do do do
la la la la la, do do do do do

check out this depressing shit

Lyrics for Glam Slam
performed by Prince
This thing we got - it's alive!
It seems 2 transcend the physical
One touch and I'm satisfied
Must be a dream it's so magical

CHORUS:
Glam Slam - thank U, ma'am
U really make my day
Glam Slam - thank U, ma'am
I pray U'll always stay

I know I hold U 2 tight (2 tight)
But I just can't seem 2 get close enough (I want 2 hold U)
Want 2 hold U every night (Wanna hold U every night)
I'm so horny and U're the stuff

CHORUS

Heavy feather, flicka nipple
Baby scram, water ripple
(I don't understand) It means I love U
Come a butterfly straight on your skin
U go 4 me and I come again
Glam Slam - thank U, ma'am

Sun is risen, moon is gone
Soda fizzin' on the lawn
Come a butterfly straight on your skin
Glam Slam
Glam Slam - thank U, ma'am
U really make my day - hahahaha

This thing we got - it's alive! (Alive)
It seems 2 transcend the physical
One touch and I'm satisfied (Ooh, baby)
Must be a dream it's so magical

CHORUS

Glam Slam

and look-you want despair and loss...check out these bleak lyrics

New power, new power, give it 2 me
Oh, it need some bottom in here, lay it on me
New, yeah
Hey now, hey now

Everybody on the block say it is the best
The most vital is what they say - more or less
It put my name upon my thigh
It make me dance, it make me cry
And when I touch it, racecars burn rubber in my pants (Oh)

This feeling's so good in every single way
I want it morning, noon and night of every day
And if by chance I cannot have it - I can't say
But with it I know heaven's just a kiss away, kiss away

Dig me now
Anyone that's ever touched it, huh, they don't want nothing else
No they don't
And I got 2 tell the world, I just can't keep it 2 myself (No)
All in life becomes easier
No question is unresolved and I'm not afraid now
Come on and touch it, I know U will love it
With it I know heaven's a butterfly kiss away

This feeling's so good in every single way
I want it morning, noon and night of every day (And if by chance)
And if by chance I cannot have it - I can't say
With it I know heaven is a just a kiss away, kiss away (Yeah)
Lovesexy

No! Yeah! Yeah!
Did U feel that? (Lovesexy)
Love… loves…

Rain is wet, sugar is sweet
Clap your hands, stomp your feet (Lovesexy)
Everybody, everybody know
When love call, U got 2 go
(Yeah! Alright!)

Lovesexy

(Alright)
2night we make love with only words
Girls first, girls first

OK, so like first
I will start by telling U how smart and intelligent a curve your behind has
And then I can tell U that I can just smell U
And racecars burn rubber in my pants
But I really dig trippin' on the thought of being caught
By somebody with your beauty, style and grace
Baby, I don't care
I would rip out my hair 4 just 2 nights with your face (Lovesexy)
I don't wanna make love 2 U
I just wanna look at U
I just wanna listen 2 U, uh, uh

Oh, pretty little whip, U got me drippin'
Drippin' all over the floor, the floor
If I come back as a woman
I want a body like yours, a body like yours
Living rooms?
I think, I think U would
I think U wanna play house
Yeah, I think U wanna play house (Lovesexy)
U don't mind
I think U… uh
I think U want me 2 f… {beep} inside of U
Yea, yeah, I... (Lovesexy)
U want me 2 sit around your living room, ha ha
Yeah, U...U want me 2 walk right down your halls
Mm hmm (Lovesexy)
U want me 2 swivel in your love seat
D-don't U, baby?
U want me 2 write my name on your walls
U want me 2 write my name on… (Lovesexy)

We make love with only words
I'll make love 2 U… 2morrow
Sweet dreams

When 2 R In Love

So fierce U look 2night
The brightest star pales 2 your sex
Before we do anything, let me just talk 2 U

When 2 are in love
They'll whisper secrets only they 2 can hear
When 2 are in love

When 2 are in love (Love)
Their stomachs will pound every time the other comes near
When 2 are in love

When 2 are in love (Love)
Falling leaves will appear 2 them like slow motion rain
Slow motion, slow motion

When 2 are in love
The speed of their hips can be faster than a runaway train
(Drip-drop, drip-drop - water, water, water)

Come bathe with me – let's drown each other in each other's emotions
Bathe with me – let's cover each other with perfume and lotion
Bathe with me – ooh, let me touch your body till your river's an ocean
Bathe with me – let's kiss with one synonymous notion
Nothing's forbidden and nothing's taboo (Nothing's taboo)
When the 2 are in love (L.O.V.E. - L.O.V.)
Can U hear me?

When 2 are in love (When 2 are in love)
Their bodies shiver at the mere contemplation of penetration
(Let alone the act) Let alone the actual act (Act)

When 2 are in love
The thought of his tongue in the V of her love
In his mind (this thought) - it leads the pack (Pack)

Come bathe with me – let's drown each other in each other's emotions
Bathe with me – let's cover each other with perfume and lotion
Bathe with me – ooh, let me touch your body till your river's an ocean
Bathe with me – let's kiss with one synonymous notion
That nothing's forbidden and nothing's taboo (Nothing's taboo)
When the 2 are in love (Love)
In love
Can U hear me?

Hold me
Yeah, just like that
Don't move

strange...Lovesexy is a positive feeling..embracing the world..so the speak..thats the reason 'yes' is allover the cover and at the start...even a heartbreak has a positive twist (i wish u heaven / alphabet st.)..i have no clue how u find it suicidal or negative..the only reason i could find is the "anna stesia" lyrics..for a better understanding of this song and all the others check out the lovesexy tour...(anna stesia is the bridge-song between the dark/negative prince which is shown in pt.1, and the positive/white prince which is shown in pt.2; moreover all the other lovesexy songs are in the pt.2.)

I understand that lyrically it's very positive but I just feel this whole underlying sense of loss throughout the album. Perhaps it's Prince's exploration of his self during this period and his spiritual maturity that I hear. Or maybe I'm talking bollocks again. Regardless, it's one of my favourite albums but it always leaves me slightly down. But in a nice way. I've got a long way to go indeed...

That would be an oxymoron, wouldn't it? falloff

I've heard very little of the material myself, but the impression I get is light and positivity. One track is called positivity, that's gotta count for something, right?

Alphabet Street & Glam Slam are positive as far as I can tell. In fact, Glam Slam has such a catchy, fun beat, how could it not be cheerful? And eye wish u heaven is also very light and happy.

Possibly, a lot of this may have to do with the one song "Anna Stesia" which deals with some pretty dark stuff. It's more or less a response to The Black Album and how he's trying to make up for any wrongdoing he has committed. I saw a live performance of that song, and it was intense and bordered on creepy/scary, as if the whole atmosphere had changed.

To be fair, I think your point here does have some merit.

For me, the album as a whole has always comes across as someone who's searching for positivity through bad times rather than having already found it.

eye no tells of the battle one may have with Satan/evil/the dark side (Spooky Electric). Not the most uplifting of themes.

Alphabet St has the vibe of someone who's lonely and desperately wants some kind of connection with someone or something. It's full of 'I'm going to' type statements, rather than 'I am' statements. Almost sounding like someone fantasizing. And the line '2 make this cruel, cruel world hear what we've got to say' sounds like someone who may feel somehow bitter towards something un-named.

Glam Slam is the first relief, as it initially seems completely happy and positive. That said, the lines 'Heavy feather, flicka nipple, baby scram, water ripple (I don't understand), it means I love U...' is interesting in so far as it's the only comment we hear from the woman he's singing to and she doesn't appear to understand him, despite the wonderfully obtuse, romantic lyrics. Again, that's somehow sad considering his effort.

Anna Stesia is about loneliness and desperation. Nuff said, but finding salvation in God appears to be his answer. Depending on your faith and beliefs, the positivity/negativity element of this song is open to debate.

Dance On: very negative themes throughout.

Lovesexy livens things up and, being the title track, is the true hymn to salvation.

When 2 R In Love follows up Lovesexy's positive vibe and takes it to the next, more intimate, level. Interesting that When 2 R In Love's positive message was originally included as the antidote to The Black Album's vibe of hedonism and negativity (depending on your view). Here, I think that it's pairing with Lovesexy performs the same function - an uplifting respite from the 'hope in the face of darkness' vibe of the rest of the album.

The first few lines of eye Wish U Heaven are most important as they pretty much tell in what context the rest of the song is meant to be interpreted; despite the relationship falling apart, Prince is still wishing his partner every happiness. Heartbreakingly beautiful, as they say. What a lovely thing to do - wishing your estranged partner every happiness, despite the implied heartbreak. It's a wistful, rather than a happy song.

Positivity is the final message and yet again, it tells of a number of negative things before illustrating how positivity is the way forward.

So, is the Lovesexy album positive? Hell yes! But it does it through reminding the listener of negativity and does it through the mind of someone who's clearly been through depression and bad times.

The soul of Lovesexy appears somewhat sad and the album lights the candle rather than curses the darkness that created it.

But hey, we all see and interpret things differently.

I would challenge you to rethink this - what you hear as sadness and sorrow, I hear as redemption and remembering God as he understood it (at the time).

So I was kinda onto something then? It's almost discordant at times but somehow Prince manages to hold it together. It's often sparse between beats, or is it just that he is throwing sounds together at odd intervals?

I've never quite known how I feel about this album. Perhaps it harks back to its involvement in my life during a period where I was lost? I had split from my first love (messily) and was spending too much time smoking draw as a result. Plus I never really became fully comfortable with the world about me until many years later. Actually I'm probably still a little lost (afraid) within the world.

I do like Haystack's point of view that it comes from someone who knows what they want but hasn't actually got there yet. Perhaps there is no point to this album other than Prince expressing himself and his thoughts. If it is (which I think it is) then it is arguably his greatest artistic achievement to date.

Having seen the man on stage last year I do not believe that he is capable of producing another album like Lovesexy due to his state of mind. He appeared to me to be a man whom has found happiness and is content with his self. He wasn't striving to 'be' as he already 'was'.

God I love this man.
