Yes indeed TRC is not a great album in my book, infact it's not even a good one. I agree with Persian on almost everything he says and with the tread starter. I know that the last 10 years, when I have heard of a new prince record coming out I'm there and I'll spend the next week non-stop getting to like his albums. However albums like RTC and NewPowerSoul never ever got played after the first week again.

Does this mean I'm dissing Prince and threatning to not be a fan? Or even worse does this mean that I am not a "TRUE" fan? Most of you reply to this thread with "damn a stupid thread" "shut up already" and comments like it because god orbid we the fans would have to acknowledge that Prince has made some really crappy music in his life time. Granted the big majority of his work is brilliant but damn he has crashed and burned as well lately more than ever before.

Yes I am a fan and yes I dare to say that Prince has made crap music through the years IMO!

ps: Going to his concert in Aalborg tonight woooeeeiii!

Hope you enjoy the crap music he'll be playing tonight!

yup it was especially hinted at you cherryloon so glad you replied in the predictable maner wink

4 me TRC album has 2 b one of the finest, deepest, spiritually uplifting and quality music album Prince has ever made. Not only r the lyrics cleverly woven 2 express the message of Gods Word. They r also delivered with a voice and expression of personal belief in those words which r second 2 none. I mean who else is pushing the boundaries of music like Prince is doing 2 day?. 4 me the Rainbow Children contains some extremley complex lyrical meanings ie in Last December the lines " would anybody remember 2 remeber u? " and " Where u just somewhere in the middle, not 2 good not 2 bad?" they r questions we all must contemplate about life in its most spiritual sense. I fell that Prince pushes us 2 ask ourslelves the hard questions in life, the very same questions he has been asking himself on his musical journey. These r the things that i love which Prince is doing in TRC. He is presenting a superb message, dressed up in some very scintilating music, music which is above and beyond his own immaculate standards. Just get lost in the funk of 1+1+1=3, b enthraled in the emotion of She loves me 4 me, be blown away by the genuis of Everlasting Now and take solace in the message of the title track! I mean from start 2 finish this album 4 me is "soul-food" its an album which u can funk-out 2, its an album which makes u wanna "shake ya pants" but its also an album which challenges u 2 think of the true meaning of life...in short i love it, by far the finest album release (in my opinion) since his emanciapation!...everybodies looking 4 the ladder...everybody wants salvation of the soul...

I'm not going to diss anyone. I just want to add that to me, TRC is great. I think it is his best work since Love Symbol. It is musically mind-absorbing and it has content. Furthermore, the art concept is good.

It has been a long time since Prince has made a truly artistic work (The War was one excepting, which, by the way, is a jam that alson reminds of The Rainbow Children (ie the title song)). Prince has constantly been doing good stuff (again, that's my opinion), but it's the first time since 1992 that he has made an album that is of quality in its entirety and each song individually. To me, Prince seems to have regained his ability to craft and produce a decent song. And that's what matters.

So yes, I think TRC is good.

Antoon.

PS: whithout wanting to diss anyone... this album is conceptually as good as LoveSexy, Sing or 1999 (in my opinion), but couldn't it be that people don't like it cause it hasn't been a commercial success? I mean, if The Everlasting Now had ever become a single and they would have played it 20 times a day on radio and MTV, wouldn't you grow to like it, even if you're not a fan? And what then if the single would have made it to the clubs? I think it would have grown on many people. And imagine that one month later, Family Name becomes the second single, and then Muse 2 the Pharaoh, ... Our concetion of the album would have become very different I think. So I think that you have to keep that in mind. It's us that have to do the heavy rotation now, the radio and telly won't do it for us. In some way I regret that this is the case, but then again, I feel that Prince is right. I'm just glad that I can listen to TRC. wink

Peace.

I don't understand, why so many people r hating on TRC. I think it's his best record since "Gold", the production is lovely and there is a special, warm sound to this record, that "Rave" (oh my god, how bad this 1 was!) neva had.
And as far as the lyrical content is concerned: i rather have him talking in a very straight and confessional way about his beliefs than just to adress a very uncertain spirituality no 1 can relate to or no 1 can reject,

"help me, i think i'm falling!"

From one Mitchell fan to another,I completely agree with your comments.TRC is BY FAR the best Prince album since TGE.
It's musically uplifting,challenging and stimulating.

I listen to Prince music that is as old as 1978-79. So TRC barely being a year, that's not even close to being old...Most of his music is age-less.

I repect the fact that you didn't enjoy TRC, but it's still spinnin strong in my stereo.

That's my shit! The Intro comes in so FUNKY and HARD! Gotta love it. music

The Rainbow Children is one of his best albums. A trip if there ever was one.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

'The Rainbow Children' is easily one of Prince's greatest albums ever.

It stands the test of time. It is so varied and takes so many musical twists and turns that I can listen to it now and still hear something new.

It is daring both musically and as a spiritual statement.
