I guess either it's because of his longevity and influence in the game or he was just this cat that was way ahead of his time. But it makes me mad to see that everyone that was hating on him back then has now come around and decided to respect the man.

When I was growing up I didn't really have too many friends or peers that like Prince as much as I did. In fact, most of the kids thought he was just this little "fag", "weirdo" or "homo" that sang like a girl. They even started picking on me and calling me similar names for liking the man. I had to constantly defend him as well as myself. He was different, yes, but he didn't deserve those titles. But see, I came in a time when Hip-Hop was prevalent (it still is today), and everyone liked that hardcore, macho bullshit. But someone like Prince, who wasn't necessarily macho and somewhat of a sotfy or sissy just didn't sit well with the mainstream folks. I loved the man, but it came at a price of becoming somewhat of a social outcast. The similar thing happened with my love for New Wave music.

But now in recent years, our hero has come back with a band and proven himself as the elder statesman of the funk. But now everyone, mainstream or underground, gives props to him or is inspired by him or whatever.

But wait a second, I thought he was a "little faggot" back then. Now you're showing him love? pissed

lol I totally agree with you!
His Sound, His looks nobody understood it, He was ahead of his time. But Now the doors he broke down he wants to repair. lol

All his music back then and now is so tame compared to today, But at least he was clever in his writing. But What I like most about Prince is that His Music and Personality have matured this is the reason he's still around and other acts are still playing oldies concerts. Prince still has something to say and offer and it's never what we expect and usually what we want. wink
We all want a big hit again because
we want to relive the Hysteria & Pandemonium we experienced
when Purple Rain was Hot. Actually, he doesn't care if it happens again or not.

I just used that quote in an ironic way. I'm not saying that about him. That waht I had to hear from other ignorant morons growing up. I know Prince is all man and the sexiest man to rock high heels. He's just someone who does things differently and in his own way. And usually anyone who doesn't conform to the status quo gets automatically stereotyped as a homo or queer or whatever other ignorant slur one throws at them.

What a thread. Imagine being a kid in the 80's/90's, loving Prince but was in fact gay, though he wasn't sure at the time. That was me. It was twice as scary for me to admit that I liked Prince once I became sexually aware because I was afraid that somehow, someone would find out that I like other boys because I was a fan of a man who wore makeup and high-heels. I "manned up" and told people, kids at the time, that I liked Prince and I was ridiculed and he was called "fag" and "gay" but they didn't come after me and wonder about me, at least not im my face. It didn't stop me from talking about him either once I started talking about him. When I came out to one of my cousins in 2004, she told me that she figured that I was gay because I liked Prince. I told her Prince wasn't the reason but it left me shaking my head cause I didn't talk about him like I wanted to fuck him or anything like that back then. It still makes me wonder what was up with her. lol

But anyone who allows themselves to be that shallow over why they don't like someone's music is a loser. It should be about what their music, not about what someone like. People like that will always make me shake my head. They are the ones missing out. That's on them. I'm just glad I got the revelation and got it as young as I did.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

as 4 the topic of this thread:

like chris rock said 'remember when we used 2 have battles of who was better prince or michael? PRINCE WON!"
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

he might be doing oldie concerts (for us older fans many of whom have been a bit busy over the last 20 years or so) but his aftershows are something else
"C'mon y'all - let me hear you sing, c'mon y'all, shake, c'mon y'all, jump" - Yes Prince -
"London do you feel for me what I feel for you"- yes Prince -
"Can I play my guitar now?" - yes please

he should flip it ..doing the rare stuff at the main shows and the aftershows the nostalgic set

i'm sure loads of fans would love that but equally loads would not - mind you doing 21 nights he perhaps could have done a few like that .... who knows?

Hopefully it's a sign that even idiots can mature. I wouldn't want to be held to my tastes from 20 years ago.

Or maybe it's just trendy to see Prince as a respected artist and they're following that trend. Either way, it's not worth losing any sleep over.
"What kind of fuck ending is that?"
