again like my title thread titled Purple Rain vs Sign Of The Times, I am doing threads about 2 albums that i find r equally adored by myself and was wondering what u guys thought was best out of the 2

1.Emancipation
The album the tiny purple one stated he was born to make with 3 discs of original material varying in all differin styles of music and more notably the first time prince had done cover versions of other artists/writers songs and what great covers they r Betcha By Golly Wow is masterfully done and One Of Us is even better than the original.Ok so it may hav a few tracks that arent classics and he may not of covered any new ground,But its the sheer amount of material and within the album there are plenty of gems(FLSMW,Face Down,What Gets Up,The Love We Make etc) and some great soundin melodies(Holy River,Soul Sanctuary,Saviour etc) all in all a great album from the purple one.

2.Musicology
Now here we hav it this is the album that introduced me 2 prince b4 hand i only heard 2 of his songs(Purple Rain,TMBGW)starting with a great soundin funk tune Musicology which givs a nod 2 all the great funk masters(or true funk soldiers as P says)also showcases once again what a great lyricist the purple dude is,(A Million Days,On The Couch)also it features one of my fav P Tunes Call My Name(which he won a grammy 4 best vocal) he even finds time 2 go political(Cinnamon Girl,Dear Mr Man) and hav a dig at jacko(Life O The Party)it is a nice tight album at 45 mins and As i hav stated i hold this album dear 2 my heart cuz if it wasnt 4 this i wouldnt hav become the prince fan i am 2day or bothered buyin another 24 of his albums.

For myself this is hard 2 pick out of the 2 and even tho Musicology introduced me 2 prince, i will hav 2 go for Emancipation for reasons i hav stated above

seems a very strange comparison, 2 very different albums (then again...all of prince's are to be fair)

id definitely go with emancipation, such a great range of songs; disc 3 is one of my fav prince discs

Emancipation on most days, can't compare it to anything else really because of songs like Dreamin' About U. But on second thought, I can't be sure , I A Million Days

Awww,both of these r awesome,but I'll have 2 go with Emancipation,just bcuz it's 3 discs.More Prince 2 love!

I'd have to go with Emancipation for sheer quantity. I'd say you could get more classics out of it than Musicology.

Emancipation certainly isn't his greatest album, but to pull off a 3 disc set that holds together, yet has a different feel for each disc, is pretty amazing. Almost like Lord of the Rings (movie) Not to mention the physical construction--one hour to the second? And it's a one man show for the most part.
Amazing, if not exactly exciting


An better comparison might be Musicology, 3121, PE vs. Emancipation.

i strangly would never have come off the idea to compare these two albums, but that is a matter of taste, opinion and whatever else one holds for an album.

but if you were to think about the crystal ball set up, musicology would sit nicely as the 4th cd on emancipation

emancipation. more songs, slightly better selections. the holy river. so for that one alone.

If I made a single disc of Emancipation it would be...

For Me its not too hard to pick and for me its Emancipation.

Emanicipation as you stated was generous in its amount of songs.
The album was well hyped before its release so my expectations were high and when I first heard the album it took few listens untill I really found an overall appreciation of it.
I dont know if it lived up to its hype but thyere are some very likeable tracks on it.

Musicology, for me this album only has maybe 4 or nearly 5 songs that I like the rest of it I just skip. I dunno somehow for me its just an album I cant completly get into thats easiest way to say it.

Emonacipation - There are more and better songs.
