SHE GAVE HER ANGELS appreciation thread

I keep including this song on CD's I make for friends who aren't necessarily Prince fans. I've made a mix of "spiritual" Prince songs and always include this. I think it's one of his most underrated songs and increasingly an all-time favorite of mine. Absolutely gorgeous, great lyrics...uplifting...awesome!

during the solo on the holy river, he plays some of the notes from she gave her angels nod
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

ABOUT THE "SPOOKY"...

My friend's mother died this morning. I recently made him a Prince mix but DIDN"T include this, as it was for his birthday and he wanted alot of acoustic guitar stuff...wish I had now. But I DID give it to another good new friend last night on a Spiritual Prince mix...I don't think it's "spooky" at all, that infers fright and scares and Halloween, I do think God is ALive if we let him we are even the least bit willing to let Him (her, it, whatever ur God is to U)
in to ur heart. And once that happens, very interesting things start to occur. At least that has been my experience, and it's all BRAND NEW! I'm not religious, just started on a spiritual path recently and Prince's spiritual side is really hitting me these days...Peace everyone!

When I first got into Prince I was with my highschool sweetheart who was an advid Prince fan ..and we both disagreed about SGHA. He said it was sappy and made him cringe..while I loved it and always played it again and again when I listened to CB. I especially love the guitar solo..it also reminds me of Sunday Papers for some reason..the same feeling (I guess because they were both towards Mayte smile )

well there are 7 notes in all different octaves it's only gonna b natural 2 hit the same notes but 2 play the notes in a row and making it sound like another song is different. it's been awhile since i've heard she gave her angels but if i can hear the same notes in row that r in purple rain, then that song loses points in my book

It's the kind of song that makes me glad that there was a Crystal Ball.

But then you also have Tell Me How You Wanna Be Done & P Control, & that feeling goes away. sad

I think purple rain is more than just a song when its comes to Prince..its a way of life..a franchise..a part of his being ...so it really does matter to me if he says it in more than just 1 song... look at how far he has taken the color purple..its just natural that purple rain follows suit

I donno.... good question L4OA!

I personally dont think its a "burden" for him ...I think at times its more of an infatuation he had early in his career. - But I really dont see him using it much at this point in his music. I think that purple rain was more of a spiritual cornerstone for him than an "fan exploited" foundation.

But ya know you may have a point- that he feels he HAS to use it since that was his biggest hit.

Well either way I believe Prince has always been spiritual and is now spreading that into his music now more than ever.

well the album was his biggest hit yes, but as 4 a song, when doves cry is his biggest hit but gets the brush off treatment during his current live shows. i have sat next 2 fans waiting 4 the concert 2 begin, and they joy they xpress in wanting 2 hear purple rain is crazy, and in concerts where he hasn't done it (woot!) they tend 2 act like someone killed their parents. so i would tend 2 think it's more of a obligation 2 please fans rather than him being allowed the freedom 2 progress in his music spectrum
